Final: Butler 87 Bradley 75

Just got back from the game.
Butler 87
Bradley 75
Not much to say about it- Butler shot the three better than I have ever seen a visiting team shoot it at Carver. They were 13-27 from three, and 29-54 overall. Any time a team can score 87 points on 54 shots on the road, they are going to win.
And they didn't just have 1 or 2 three point threats. They had 3 or 4 guys on the floor at any time that could drill the three.
Bradley had some struggles scoring at times, but there were some good things tonight, too. I didn't think the defense was that bad, but Butler would make the shots when they needed to.
We really miss Andrew Warren and Will Egolf. I hope we can learn from this game. Butler will win the Horizon easily, and if they can shoot like they did tonight, they can go a lot farther.

Well, it is what it is...we're not very good at this point. There's always potential of course, but we're not very consistent.

Very interesting discussion among the radio broadcasters while waiting for Coach Les. There was a LONG wait too as he was apparently having a team meeting with the players after the game.

Coaches Buescher and Stowell were echoing a lot of things the posters here are saying:
-need leadership from the center position
-we have no go-to guy for the opponents to key on
-need mental toughness
-free-throws

I agree that Butler will win the Horizon as well. Some publication had them picked sixth this year! Yeah, right! They will be heading to the Big Dance again, and will cause some damage again there.

Am listening to Les on the post game show. He is NOT happy with lack of intensity this team showed early on. He cites that this is the second time this year that they have come out of a good practice only to come out flat (UMKC game the other). He seems more concerned about the effort than the actual number of wins, which will come if they play hard.

I know Butler is a great team, but Les could not be more correct about how flat they came out. Les is indicating changes will be made. I hope so so we can at least salvage the Valley season.

The only good news tonight is that Bradley's RPI holds at 64 and Creighton's shot up to 60 with their win against Dayton. Now the Valley has four teams in the top 64, and Illinois St and Drake with lower RPI's but great records. Maybe the Valley will be better than expected.

Coach - I don't know if it's that we miss AW & WE as much as missing a go to scorer. Somebody the opponent has to game plan for and will certainly burn them if they don't. Right now they can play straight up one on one D on BU without any double teaming and not pay a price for it. I think there is also a bit of an identity crisis in that there is nobody to for a player to turn as their "stud" when their individual game is off. Nobody has really stepped up to be a consistent threat, game in, game out.

I absolutely love the fact that at the end of the game JL turned loose 4 Frosh & a Soph. I think you saw a ton of energy from those guys! Truthfully, turnovers killed them too. I'm not sure the AT is the answer down low, but you can't deny his effort he definitely was putting it out there on the floor.

Tough loss to another good team.

I'm resisting comment. What I want to say would rightfully be deleted, so I won't say it. I'm just very dissappointed and had to type something even if it isn't what I want to say. Good night friends. Tomorrow brings a new day... maybe I'll run for the Senate!

I was very impressed with Butler. They had great ball movement, rebounded well, shot well.
Their only downfall was they turned the ball over and had too many were unforced.
Other than they are a solid team that is very well coached. Stevens seemed like he had been coaching for years and years and did an excellent job tonight.
Bradley has a long way to go....no doubt about it.

My son made the comment...Theron goes up and slams a rebound left handed but can't make a simple entry pass into the post.....

Whats your bid for the set:doubt::roll::lol: I'll pass it on but don't try to low ball it as still Gov. B gets very upset and use's the F word in front of NO:twisted:

Sam Man had 18 points tonight? I'm guessing he will continue to start. I'm guessing Roberts will be the odd man out. Which I hate because that makes BU even smaller.

Les' comments seemed to indicate that if you don't practice you don't play. When Buescher praised Maniscalco's game to Les in the postgame Les was strangely silent. Plus, Sam was not in the game as much in the second half. My gut tells me Sam sits for a game or two..... But we need him as a starter and hungry come MVC time.

Ya it does, but what has he done to deserve to start? I feel that he is selfish and doesn't take his shots within the scope of the offense.

Post game remarks are true as we have no go to guy, defense is bad when you allow a visitor to come in and score that many points, poor freethrow shooting once again, starting center had 0 points , changes need to be made as I believe a lot of us have said that you can"t live and die off the 3 point shot when your team does not have enough consistent 3 point shooters, the Warren and Egolf injuries have hurt this teams chances to win a lot more then most of us realize and we know that Will is done for the season and it is starting to look like Andrew may not be back either.

Can we stop playing zone vs a three point shooting team please???? I realize when we played man they hit some threes too but it seemed to be worse when we played zone.

Not really:!: Wilson to the 3 and Thompson to the 4:!: Start Singh:!: Maybe DC can come off the bench like late last year. :?::?:

What changes can you make that he hasn't already tried? The inside game is non-existent, and at times tonight BU had three players on the court who were 6 foot or less. Butler is a good team, very well coached with good shooters. But BU shot poorly from the field and from the FT line again, and defended poorly. Butler's shooters were wide open a lot of the time.

The teams who were originally picked lower in the Valley are going to be better than first thought (MSU, UE especially). It will be very tough for this team to stay out of the Thursday games come MVC tourney time.
