Katz disses Bradley

Near the end of his blog where he mostly talks about the Salukis big opportunity against Duke tonight, he compliments the Spartans (and disses the Braves).

"Credit Tom Izzo of Michigan State for going on the road to lower-level schools. The Spartans played at Bradley last season and visited IPFW on Wednesday, winning 70-59."

Bradley is not a lower-level school and should never be compared to a garbage school like IPFW.

I agree. Bradley is not in the class that Michigan State is, but I think they are much closer to them in status and quality than IPFW is to Bradley.

Wow. What a slam by Katz. Let me know when IPFW makes the NCAA, let alone the Sweet 16, and produces an NBA Lottery Pick. Thanks Andy!

Katz is what Katz is a BCS brown noser. Anyone who is not a BCS school regardless of history will all be lumped together regardless. I would not worry about it because it just show his ignorance.

Aside from this post, I won't even dignify his comment with a response other than he did take a shot at the BCS teams that won't go on the road to play these type of teams.

But please Katz, learn the difference between a lower level team and a high major team!

I think Bradley has a better program than IUPU-FW.

But....

2007-08 Season
Indiana St vs IUPU-FW 63-55 (Difference of 8pts)
Indiana St vs Bradley 76-66 (diff 10 pts)

2006-07
Michigan St vs IUPU-FW 80-43 (37 pts)
Michigan St vs Bradley 82-53 (29 pts)

2005-06
Loyola @ IUPU-FW 69-61 (8pts on road)
Loyola vs Bradley 86-72 (14pts)

Now, just finding games to support my argument. There are others to support just the opposite. All I am saying... if we play IUPU-FW on a neutral court (let's say).... I think of it as a big game. I think we should win - but I don't think it is a given. Every game is a big game IMO.

Now, getting to Michigan State. They knew the game in Peoria was a big game. And I am sure Izzo has the players taking that approach when they play at IUPU-FW.

Katz? Seems like his arrogance and ignorance shows thru.

I think the level of BU's play is above IPFW too but that doesn't mean IPFW is a garbage school

I don't see the big deal. I think a lot of you are being far too sensitive. Nowhere in this quote does it say that he considers IPFW and BU to be equal programs. He says that Michigan State played two lower-level schools on the road...BU is a lower-level program when compared to MSU...IPFW is a lower-level program when compared to MSU. There's nothing that isn't factual in those statement...that isn't a diss in my book. Mid major, low major, they are all lower level programs when comparing them to a perennial Big Ten power.

It just seems like some of you are desperately looking for reasons to be angry about everything that any media member says (or doesn't say) about BU.

Well, funny how playing "at" BYU doesn't get mentioned. And if one thinks BYU's 23 NCAA appearances puts them over Bradley, then that must mean Princeton's 23 appearances puts them over Bradley.

I think people are looking into this too much. It's like making something out of nothing really. Why do we care if he used our school in the same sentence as another school on a slightly lower level.

I agree with ya Stryker - but this is just part of the "nit-pik-n-gotchya". New media exposes mainstream media for what it is... "drive-by media". ;)

How do the three compare the last 20 years? I'm too lazy to do the research

I don't understand how the last 20 years defines a program. I don't understand how NCAA basketball only means something since "certain many years ago".

But for you Lefty...

Last 20 years...

BYU has had 11 NCAA trips. They are 3-11. They have advanced beyond the first round 3 times and no further. No Sweet 16's (and beyond).

Princeton has had 9 NCAA trips. They are 2-9 and have advanced beyond the first round twice but nothing further (no Sweet 16's and beyond).

Bradley has had 3 NCAA trips. They are 2-3 and have been beyond the first round once and to the Sweet16 once.

I am not sure where the discussion wants to go with this info. So Bradley has had fewer trips to the NCAA. So do they need to find a conference where they have a better chance to win every year (therefore conceding we can never win the MVC or even compete)? I don't want them to. (time for BradleyBrave to enter saying I want Bradley to shoot for lower expectations and go to the Southland just to win Conference titles and get more bids to the NCAA)

That's not what I am suggesting.

IPFW has only been Division I for 8 years. They have never had a winning record, they have never won more than 13 games in a season, they have never been to the NCAA tournament, or any post-season tournament, they have never had an RPI under 218, and of course, they have never had an All American player, or a player who played pro at any level.
Their best home attendance in their history was last year when they averaged 1846 per game.
IMO, their program is so far below the level of Bradley, that it will be decades before it might be suggested they are as close to Bradley's level as BU is to Michigan State. And I am not sure they ever will be.
And if they played Bradley at Carver Arena the game would be more one-sided than it will be when BU plays at Michigan State.

Mac, this requires no defense...it is already self-evident.
