BU 58@ #19 Florida 81

CR needs to get hot earlier in games.

I would be very curious to see how Chris Roberts handles playing off the bench as opposed to starting. I'm assuming Warren will be taking his spot. I think someone compared him to Boogie Wright. So, I'm hoping Chris will have as much of an energizing impact as he did as the sixth man.

Here are a few other good candidates for POW and NOW in the MVC--

Evansville won their game Saturday against Austin Peay and Shy Ely had a pretty nice game- 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists.

And Creighton is 1-0, and they had a couple players who are solid candidates for POW
P'Allen Stinnett had 30 points, 4 rebounds.
Booker Woodfox had 26 points, 4 rebounds.

Illinois State is 1-0 with a nice road win at Wright State, the team picked #2 in the Horizon League. Chamberlain Oguchi had 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Osiris Eldridge had 16 points.

Wichita State is 1-0 with a win over Florida A&M Sunday. Ramon Clemente had a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds. Newcomer Clevin Hannah, a juco PG, lead them with 13 points, and 5 assists.

And SIU is 2-0 with a couple good games by Carlton Fay.-
16 points, 11 rebounds against California-Pennsylvania and
17 points, 4 rebounds against UMass.

NOW candidate- Johnny Moran, a freshman point guard for UNI, had a double-double in his first college game. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds in UNI's win over Denver.

Through the first two games, I can see and understand coach Les' enthusiasm regarding this years team. They are quick and they are athletic. If they can get some shots to drop they're going be very tough to beat. I don't know if this is going to be a "special" year but after watching the team get their you-know-whats handed to them, I'm confident it will have many positive surprises along the way....

It's great to be quick and athletic, but it also helps to have some outside shooting.

Its great that we got such a quality opponent but its hard to judge "where we are" considering they flew in just hours before tipoff and just played Friday nite. Thats no excuse or any kind of sour grapes its just the facts.

Do I think we beat them with a "better" travel schedule and a healthy AW...no but I am sure it would have been a much better game and showing by BU.

I'm glad we haven't heard any excuses from the team or the staff. You play the games when and where you are asked to but as a fan I'm taking the circumstances "under advisement" before I make any evaluations.

Maybe its just me...but Sams 3 seems to be real flat this year...not much arc on the shot....it your shot is flat on a 3 it has to be perfect....the arc can give you a little rim help if you are off....anyone else notice this?

I have noticed this and almost started a thread about it. Not only are they flat, but he shots them at about 90 mph. They have no chance of getting in unless they are perfect. Maybe he should take a Physics class to learn that there is a better chance of getting the ball in the basket the with a higher arc.

Sam's threes are exactly the way they were last year as far as I can tell. They were hitting last year, give him a little time and he will be fine.

I'm just saying more arc = higher probablility of going in. Simple shape/space dynamics.

Mike, historically they don't often choose the weekly award winners from teams who did not go undefeated that week.
The fact that BU lost to Florida will likely hurt Dodie's chances.
I suspect it'll go to Oguchi, even though it took him a million shots, he did score 14 and had 13 rebounds (most of which were simply his and O's missed shots!)....or remotely it might go to John Moran, the UNI freshman who had 14 pts/10 rebs in their close win over Denver.
Stinnett's 30 point game vs. New Mexico almost certainly will earn him the POW.

DD was named MVC NOW today!:D

Can't argue that.

Even if his shot is the same as last year that doesn't mean he is automatically excluded from needing to try to improve. He could work on his arc to get better at it. Just because they went in last year doesn't guarantee anything. Individual efforts make the team better....this is the same as asking Theron Wilson to work on his free throw shooting...I don't think that's too much to ask and I think most agree with it. SM needs to work on his 3point shot and defense for this team as a whole to get better...simply put.
