MVC Low-Major Conference Again

Not for long. We will be back next year. I expect Creighton and Drake to both be NCAA teams next year.

yeah...it makes me sad to think about..

but next year I'd say Creighton for sure gets a bid..SIU could get a bid...ISU has a shot again. I don't know about Drake..they're a possibility but if Drake gets a shot next season I think Bradley does also..I think Bradley will be better than Drake next year at number 4 and 5 respectively...especially if we get AB for next season

MVC will have 5 good teams next season...maybe more because there always seems to be a surprise...maybe UNI or Indiana St...to be honest the only one I can really rule out with no doubt is Evansville...

Indiana St. is on the upswing, I say they end up pushing UNI down the conference ratings next year along with evansville, Mo ST. and Wichita. I don't have very high expectations for BU, I think we will have a better record next year than this year, but I would be surprised if we finished higher than 4th in the conference.

I will be surprised if we finish higher than 4th also since we never have under Les.

yeah I'm predicting 4th also..but I just think Drake will be in the middle..and I think we have a shot at #3 to make ISU #4...but also I just wouldn't be surprised if we finish at 6. It really depends on our new recruits and our the recruits we got this year shape up over the offseason..it could really go either way. I'd say we have a 20% shot of getting into the NCAA tourney next year..thats with a healthy team for the majority of the season and the players that i think can step up...will.

MVC will be pretty good next year...lots of NIT teams i think

Sorry GTD - you are wrong. In the past there have been several conferences to only get 1 bid that ended in the top 15 Conf RPI.

Bottom line...

Teams get bids not conferences
.

I disagree. There's no other explanation to letting in teams like Oregon and Arizona other than they're from the Pac-10.

If teams get bids not conferences then why am I reading where the MVC and no big non conference wins kept ISU out of the tourney?

The bottom line is the MVC and all the non football playing conferences will NEVER be respected nationally and the NCAA tourney is nothing but a BCS event. Sure a few Non BCS's get to come along but if Arizona, Kentucky and A&M can participate in this event after the purely mediocure seasons they have had, the tournament is nothing but an event made to put names in brackets and to make money for the NCAA, CBS and all the advertisers. Its been this way for 30+ years and will never change.

One bid = low-major conference, period.

Nope. I disagree. A low-major conference is one that only gets one team into the tournament year in and year out. Also, we are still a top ten conference, and could still have half of our teams playing in postseason. We would need to be a one bid conference for ten years and have only one or two teams in total in the postseason before we would be deemed a low-major conference. The Valley did come close to that status in the early 90's, but fortunately, SIU, Tubby Smith's Tulsa teams, Bradley and ISU helped propel the Valley back up to respectability in the mid-90's.

We will be back, and based on our last several years, we know what needs to be done to get there. The West Coast Conference and Atlantic 10 took what we did and did it better than us this year. I'm confident we will get back to multiple bids next year.

Agreed. These things are cyclical. A drop-off was expected after all of the great players that have graduated the past few years. The league has a great group of young players coming up, and will be a 2-4 bid league again within the next 2-3 years IMO.

I don't know why everyone is worried about where we will finish in the conference season because it means nothing just ask ISU.

Everyone should have known that the conference was down this season; we as a conference did not have the big wins against great opponents like we have had in the 3 previous seasons; there are a lot of good players graduating this season so it is hard to judge if any team will be that much better then anyone else next season; a lot will depend on how much better the players improve over the summer and how much of a difference the incoming recruits make with each team.

Creighton is going to be good no matter what...I just have to say it. Creighton will be in the NCAA tourney next year for being the conference regular season champs...and really the MVC as a whole was more affected by the graduation of last years seniors..i think the only one that is going to be affected greatly this year is Drake. I hate to say that because DR and JC will be missed (never leave us ) but overall the MVC was affected more this year than it will be next year from seniors graduating.

I was just messing with everyone on this thread. Only a down year for the MVC, it will be back and I really don't think it is considered a low-major conference. TOO much parity really hurt!!! And yes, MAC, teams get bids!

I think it was pretty obvious that the MVC needed someone other than Drake to win the MVC tourney to get 2 bids this year. However, the number of MVC teams in the NIT shows that there is still respect for the MVC. Nothing against ISUs great season, but there biggest win was at SIU who was 17-14 or something like that. And i know how hard it is to win down there, but I dont expect that to turn too many eyebrows.
