Braves Scholarship Society Luncheon

tornado

New member
I just got back from a great event, the Braves Scholarship Society Luncheon.
A whole lot of fine BU fans, supporters, and patrons were there, hosted by Dave Snell, several fine speakers,
including President Joanne Glasser, and of course.....the athletes and coaches.

Just by chance.....the way the seating was arranged (or maybe someone knew something, but I have no idea how),
they seated me right in front, right near Coach Les and the BU basketball players,
but also sitting absolutely right next to sophomore golfer Zach Zobrist.
ZACH ZOBRIST

Zach (a Morton, IL native and grad of Peoria Christian School) is my oldest son's best friend from even as far back
as grade school, and they'd played on the same school baseball and basketball teams since 5th grade, and I have
even coached them, so it was indeed a truly fun time to get to sit with Zach and catch up a bit,
as now that my son is off at college out of town, I don't see him as much.

Let me say this....for anyone with the means.....consider joining the Braves Scholarship Society, as it doesn't just benefit you, it benefits these fine, young athletes, as 100% of the contribution you give goes directly to the scholarship support for these kids who may not otherwise be able to attend Bradley University.
For those not yet able to produce the means for the BSS (like you, JMoney!), I hope you'll keep it mind in the future when you do become tremendously successful and rich!

This may be a question more suited for Rick Gaa, but is the monetary gift that's payable over 3 years then required to be renewed after the 3 years is up, or is it a one-time donation?

Yeah doesn't BSS require like $15K/year for 3 years? As yet my BU education hasn't allowed that kind of financial freedom :)

I've got a long way to go but I'll get there someday. I can't wait to become one of PL's red-sweater-wearing fanatics. :)

Actually, any BSS member can quit at any time and they will not hold you to any future commitment, just like getting out of your lease with a simple 30 day notice.
I know I was never asked to sign anything, it's all voluntary as it should be.
And nobody has to re-up after 3 years, but the way the membership in the BSS is exploding from a few, to 30, to 60, to nearly 100 members - msupporting athletes in every sport, it is quite clear, that the people in the BSS want to stay and continue their support.

What I meant was - To remain a member after the 3 year period is over, do you have to donate again, or is it a lifetime membership?

No, no lifetime membership unless you are Bob Michel or Ellen Foster...
If you want to remain in the BSS it is a yearly commitment beyond the first, 2nd, and 3rd..

I know it is a big commitment and it obviously is not for everyone, but for those who've been blessed by God in a financial sense and who want to share with young people who have their future ahead of them....

here's a quote from Dr. Glasser.......

"If You’re Givin’ While You’re Livin’, Then You’re Knowin’ Where It’s Goin’"

Gotcha. Unfortunately there are no halls on BU's campus that bear my name (yet).

Is the yearly commitment beyond the first 3 years in line with the initial annual commitment amount?

One of my goals in life is to get my kid through Catholic schools, then college (maybe BU) over the next 11 years and then re-direct that tuition $$ toward my #1 & #2 passions -- Bradley Basketball and Chicago Bears football.

I plan to make sizeable donations (maybe of BSS caliber) to get Primo Braves season tix and also Bears season tix and travel half-way across the country regularly to enjoy a semi-retirement in my mid-50's.

Those who are nice to me will get to use the extras I don't make it back for ;)

I hope one day to get into that position, to be able to contribute like that... BUt as of now, I'll jsut keep doing what I can.

Just so everyone knows the scholarship luncheon wasn't just for athletes (I was there) and there are also plenty of ways to support 'regular' students as well, don't think athletes are the only ones who you could extend an amazing opportunity to.
