Well, what a game, I'm glad I lost my $5 bet to a fellow alum tonight. I gave him BU and the points. I had a feeling we were gonna really tank it tonight and lose by double digits with all the negativity that has arisen from the DR incident.
Haven't seen any box score, but here's my impressions anyways:
Earlier this week I questioned Crouch's guard credentials, I recant all such statements. His smarts more than make up for his athletic deficiencies as compared to a quicker, faster guard. That pull-up 3 on the break was awesome, you knew darn well he was feelin' it when he put that up. This is what you expect from a leader when the chips are down, and the chips don't get much more downer than they are now. (Huh? What kind of English is that?)
Cole-Scott looked a little shaky early, but seemed to get it under control as time went on, and made a big contribution. Let's hope he builds on this game; if he can provide the same contribution in BU's future games, it'll take some pressure off Maniscalco, and help make up for the missing Ruffin and Warren.
Maniscalco looked real good tonight, but man, he's gotta finish when he gets to the rim. I wanna say he coulda had another 6-8 points easy if he got those to go down. His ceiling keeps getting higher and higher each game.....
Salley/Austin/Singh (The SAS, how's that for a trendy nickname, huh? C'mon whadday'all think?) did real, real well tonight. However, still some bad screens and obvious rough post play that they got nabbed for, gotta be smarter than that. Austin caught a raw deal a couple of times with the fouls, the one over-the-back was a bummer of a call, the UWM guy was undercutting him from the side. Salley, for as much as I've ragged on him, did a good job tonight of just taking what comes his way, and getting to the ball on rebounds. He also had a couple passes from the post that were fantastic. I think this is almost the Salley we expected at the beginning of the season.
Almost forgot about Wilson, but that would've been a crime. This guy is all over the floor, definitely a great "glue guy" that keeps the team together. A great mix of offensive play inside and outside and keeps up with his man on 'D', just a solid, solid player.
I hope I didn't forget anybody, but if the fellas can all keep this high level of play up, they're still not going to be in that bad of shape come MVC tourney time. If Warren can come back and contribute, a tourney win still can be in the cards. Personally, I don't see the situation as bleak as I did before the game.
Heckuva win fellas, keep it up.
