Bradley basketball notebook for Feb. 11, 2008

BradleyBrave--
How would you rank the MVC teams in terms of overall success over the past 5 years?

Here is how I would rank them, taking into consideration the overall success in conference, out of conference, and in the postseason--
SIU
Creighton
Bradley
Wichita (on the way down, but a couple nice years, including a Sweet 16 season)
UNI (on the way down, but several postseason appearances)
Missouri State (on the way down)
Drake (on the rise, but 1 good season and 4 bad ones)
Illinois State (1 good season, but no postseason appearances)
Indiana State
Evansville

If we're going back to 2002-2003, and judging all things in that 5 year period, I go this way -

SIU
CU
WSU
UNI
BU
MSU
DU
ISU
InSU
UE

I would have to put Wichita St ahead of BU, and UNI slightly ahead. Wichita won 20 games several years in a row, won the conference, made the postseason multiple times, and made the Sweet 16. UNI made 3 straight NCAA appearances from 2004-2006, and won the conference tournament in 2004. We fall short of both of those programs over the last 5 years, but are in the top half of the league IMO. Despite MSU's close calls and higher finishes than us in those years, I can't give them the nod due to their postseason failures in St. Louis and in the NIT.

Lets keep it calm, I am really just trying to get to 400 posts, dont mean to start an argument!!!!

We aren't arguing (at least I don't think we are), just having a civil discussion on the state of the program, where it was, and where it's heading. I'm not down on things, and I don't think DC thinks I am on here to talk about how bad we are, because I don't think we're bad and I don't think we're heading into the gutter. Quite the opposite actually. I think most people know where I stand and know where my heart lies. It doesn't mean I can't have a somewhat objective opinion on what has taken place over the last 10-12 years.

I'm kinda concerned about the recruiting thing too. I'd like an impact big and an impact wing, preferably of the 4 year variety. We've got 2 scholies to use. I'd like to get some good news sooner than later.

We definitely need a big, and one that is not a wuss when it comes to blocking shots and defending against forwards or centers two feet away from the basket. Preferably, this person should be a center. I know Bradley is a guard-oriented team, but can't we just have 3 guards on the floor, and have one center and one forward (small or power)?
