Questions to ask the coach #1

One of the funniest things I see from Coach Les when he's on the sidelines is his squatting into his sumo-style stance. I'm just impressed he can sit like that for so long. So, I guess my question is, when did he first start doing it and what have other folks' reactions been to seeing him sit like that for the first time?

I imagine it must be pretty unique among coaches.

As far as scheduling goes, does BU have a general policy of trying to stay within the region, i.e., the midwest, for away games? I don't remember seeing a lot of games voluntarily scheduled on either coast. Would love to see BU come out East and whup up some of the "quality" squads out here, especially Gary Williams and the T(w)erps!

Thanks coach and Dave Snell for setting this up, awesome idea guys!

Coach....has AT gained any weight since the start of the season? How much do you think he will weight for the start of next season?:o:

I'm not Coach Les or anything BM :), but on his last coaches' show I believe that he said AT has gained something like 15 pounds since he has been on campus.

Two Questions:

How do you delegate the coaching responsibilities among you and your staff in areas such as scouting, coaching frontcourt and backcourt players, recruiting, and the implementation of offensive and defensive schemes?

What do you look for in a person when you decide to recruit him to play at Bradley?

Anthony had actually gained around 15 pounds before fall classes began, just by being on campus for the summer sessions and working with the weight/conditioning guys. He may have gained a bit more by now, but he is still thin.

This might be a question more appropriate for KK or Bobby Parker, but I would ask what kind of lobbying (if any) goes on for a BracketBuster TV game? Do we present ourselves and our case similarly to how we present them to the NCAA committee, i.e. strength of schedule, winning streak, injuries, past BB history, name recognition, etc? I know I am biased, but I don't think there are too many teams in the BracketBuster playing better than BU right now.

Not trying to steal the question, but I got a chance to talk to AD Kavanaugh, a BU faculty guy (wish I could remember his name, I feel like a chump for forgetting), and an MVC administrator/representative last year at the gathering prior to the VCU game and we got to talking about how the matchup was setup. The schools AND the conferences put on a full-court press with the selectors to ensure that they get the matchup they think will benefit them the most, especially last year with UNI/Nevada and SIU/Butler and BU/VCU. It was pretty interesting hearing about all the "backdoor politicking" that went on prior to the BracketBuster.

Here are a couple things I have been thinking of calling in about that are a little different that the usual calls--

>>Is Bradley going to the Great Alaska Shootout next November (2008?)?

>>There was talk of arranging a preseason foreign tour for next year, maybe to Italy. It there anything more developed on this trip?

>>Are there any pro scouts planning to come back and see Daniel Ruffin, now that he's playing again?

>>What does the Coach think about the blocking/charging fouls the way the MVC refs call them? I don't like the way they call so many charging fouls, many times right under the basket as a player comes down from making a layup. It has to drive a former NBAer mad!

>>Other than St. Louis and postseason trips, do the coaches families ever travel on game trips and recruting trips?

>>I really like Andrew Warren's game, and he is becoming more consistent. I think he will be the next Bradley player to reach the 1000 point mark. Will he do more dribble-drives to the basket? He presents matchup problems for small guards, and he shoots free throws well.
Any chance he might be the team captain next year?

>>Does the coach ever read the message boards? I hope he realizes that 99% of us really support everything he's doing and we are happy to have him. Don't be bothered by the occasional fan with some gripe about the coaching!

Thanks. I'll think of more later.

BU Bill gets all his questions read!

Keep the questions coming! It looks like we will need more good questions for the coach for next week. Dave asked Coach Les many of the questions we sent in!

Would you like to see Bradley pull out of the Bracketbuster? Would you like to see the
Valley as a whole pull out of Bracketbuster? Would you be in favor of a Conference Challenge with a league such as the A-10 or Mountain West? I think that most Valley fans
feel that if we win our bracketbuster games the NCAA committee doesn't care because
they feel that we should win our bracketbuster games. If we lose a bracketbuster game
it seems like the committe uses that to keep a MVC team out of the NCAA Tournament.

You need to call Doug Elgin.

I think it might be a good idea to have a fresh thread every week or this might get awfully long.....

That's what we'll do.
I will unstick this thread, and start a new one for questions for next week.

Thanks to everyone, and keep the questions coming.
