  • BU recruit- class of 2009- C.J. Penny

Bradley is reportedly recruiting 6'5" wing guard C.J. Penny a senior (class of 2009) from Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
Penny made a visit last weekend to North Carolina A&T and said he's also still considering and hearing from a few others, including Miami of Ohio, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, George Mason and Bradley.
As a junior, Penny averaged 22 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists and nearly 3 steals a game for Anderson County. He also shot over 55 percent from the field.--

    Here are some clips--

C.J. Penny of Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky is a big guard. He stands 6-5 and has a power forward’s frame. Because of his dimensions, Penny said at Miami’s Elite Camp that he literally plays every position for his high school. His compares his game to Carmelo Anthony and describes himself as a basketball junkie who “loves to ball.”

His statistics from last season as a junior are evidence of his versatility. Penny indicated that he averaged 22 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, and nearly 3 steals per game. Penny also shot over 60% from the field.
Despite the numbers, Penny is still trying to improve. He stated, “I need to work on my jump shot some more. The knock on my college recruiting is they say I can’t shoot it.
He has found some success on the AAU summer circuit with the Shining Stars (Stowers). Shining Stars recently won the Kentucky state AAU championship. Penny led his team in scoring in both the semifinals (13 points) and finals (18 ). Penny also made the All-tournament team at the King of the Bluegrass tournament. Many scouting services rank Penny as the #3 player in the Kentucky class of 2009 behind Kentucky commit Jon Hood and Miami target Richie Phares.
Academically, Penny is a 3.0 student. Although he has not received the results of his ACT yet, Penny is confident he has qualified.
In choosing a college, Penny said he is looking at the overall academic program and the atmosphere that surrounds the basketball team. He wants to major in “sports” in order to “become a college coach so I can stay with the game.”
Penny does not have any offers yet. He is primarily interested in Miami (OH), Western Kentucky, Butler, Wright State, and North Carolina A&T. He will make a decision on a college midway through the season.
FUN FACT: Penny described himself as a “shoe fanatic who has got to have every Jordan that comes out.”

This HoopscoopOnline ranking ranked C.J. Penny as the #1 sophomore in Kentucky 1 1/2 years ago. Scroll down to the list for sophomores (class of 2009)--http://www.hoopscooponline.com/members/area-10-Kentucky.asp

A 6-5 SG who will be a Fr. next year sounds like a good fit for BU. Does anyone know if BU still has interest in C.J. Penny ?

I'm not sure this is what we need right now...I'd keep looking for a dead-eye shooter.

Probably the best situation for Penny at this point. He is a physical specimen around the rim at the high school level, but at 6'5, he needs to improve his outside game and ball handling TREMENDOUSLY to be able to make an impact at the D1 level. He played more of a PF role in high school than SF/SG.
