Brust, right as he decided last fall to commit to Iowa, had narrowed his choices to Iowa, Northwestern, Butler, and Bradley...
now he'll get pleanty of offers....he can have his pick.......

Just choose wisely...and don't go somewhere silly where he'll sit the bench, like Devan Bawinkel did when he went to West Virginia

a premium article on the Iowa site says it is a Big Ten rule that if you transfer from one Big Ten school to another you cannot be on scholarship...
that effectively rules out any other Big Ten school for both Brust and quite possibly Larson..even tho Larson wasn't yet on scholarship...but he'd still have to appeal to the Big Ten.

also - from Iowa State, rumor that Leron Dendy also might not be back -- and that Northwestern's Kyle Rowley sees tons of playing time opportunity at Iowa State so he might end up there.

Of course a lot of schools are going to try and get in on him, but will he get a chance to play as much and his family will be able to attend more games if he plays at BU, I think he can make a bigger impact in the Valley.

How does this rule out Brust (from going to a Big Ten school) ?

He was never on scholarship at Iowa (he's still a SR in high school and he isn't transferring from Iowa, since he was never there in the first place - he has been released from his LOI).

the LOI is a contract and agreement to accept the scholarship - so that apparently triggers the rule - so he cannot accept a scholarship from another Big Ten school..
I don't make the rules, but you are free to check it out yourself....

Tornado I wasn't questioning you for any of this. Just questioning out loud. Very strange that the Big Ten would put this in place for these kind of situations.

I don't know - just saw it brought up by someone else..

I will quote the guy exactly by cut and paste...
"Just spoke with Gary Barta. There are some concerns in the Larson and Brust camp related to what they were led to believe about being released from their Iowa scholarships. They felt they could transfer anywhere including in the Big Ten. But there is a Big Ten rule that states players cannot transfer within the league and be on scholarship. They could pay their own way but not get a ride

...the bottom line is this is a Big Ten rule not an Iowa rule. They can try to appeal to the Big Ten
                  "

so the info about the Big Ten rule came apparently from the Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta, and it was quoted by the founder and administrator of the "HawkeyeNation" ....fan site..

                    New premium story this morning...
Stay up to date with all the Minnesota Golden Gophers sports news, recruiting, transfers, and more at 247Sports.com

Brust has appealed to the Big Ten to rule on his eligibility to play at other Big Ten schools..
Right now, some Big Ten coaches are even cancelling meetings with Brust out of concern that even meeting with him might bean issue of violating compliance with Big Ten rules...

"Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith was expected to visit with Brust this
week, but has canceled the trip, due to questions with compliance whether
he can sign with another Big Ten school.
???He was very excited to see Tubby...... ???We have not talked to
Minnesota yet today. I know that they called me, but we understand the
                    situation.???

the also name all the other schools chasing Brust...more than ever...
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa State, Ohio State, Wake Forest, Boston College, Cal, and Iowa is still after him hard....

the Big Ten will apparently rule on this but yes, he could definitely pay his own way...this apparently only involves whether he could be given a scholarship

Now it is being reported than Cody Larson may not be able to sign with another Big Ten program...
According to a report by Steve Batterson in Sunday’s Quad City Times, former Iowa recruit Cody Larson, who received a visit from the Indiana coaching staff last Sunday, may be unable to receive a scholarship from another Big Ten school. ...

it may be strange, but apparently it is the rule...

There's talk that the families of both Brust and of Larson are upset, since the main reason they are considering other Big Ten programs...
                            Then -- suddenly both are caught off guard with this Big Ten rule;
as it happens...both kids had other Big Ten programs as the other options...

Now the families are upset that they were not fully informed of the rule....
But seriously - whose job is it for them to be informed?? I think it's their job.....

                              well..here's your answer....

The Big Ten has heard and denied Ben Brust's request for a waiver to play next year in the Big Ten...

this may actually cause him to go back to Iowa....or he may go elsewhere..

I understand why the Big Ten has this rule because you would have coaches calling players from other teams telling them that they could get more time by transferring to their school, Brust should just commit to BU and be a star in the Valley, our offense is geared to players like him.
