  • Bradley recruit- Class of 2008- Matthew Humphrey

Here is another name from the claqss of 2008 that is linked to Bradley recruiting him-- Matthew Humphrey is a 6'5" point guard who plays for Chicago Hales Franciscan. He lists Bradley (the only midmajor) as well as DePaul, Illinois, Iowa, Georgia, and Missouri.

    A couple reports--

I think this one is a free Rivals report. In this report he also mentions Marquette and Syracuse--

Bradley has a point guard virtually locked up in this '08 class. What point guard would want to come to Bradley since they already have one in that class? BU needs some size.

        Sam Maniscalco

I guess he would be '07.

well, there are the guys who dont mind competing for playing time, or who think they are better, and since when does a team not need depth? look whats happened to CU, their pg goes down and they are in deep trouble.

Here is a new article on Matthew Humphrey, a 6'5" point guard/shooting guard from Chicago Hales Franciscan high school- class of 2008. Bradley is still listed as recruiting him, along with DePaul, Iowa, Illinois, Georgia, and Missouri.

"Humphrey Ready to Take the Reigns"- is probably a premium article that requires a password.

It discusses that Humphrey is ready to take over for a couple other players from Hales Franciscan who are now playing at Div I (Nate Minnoy, Jerome Randle, and Jarvelle McGhee). He ranks his top 2 choices as Illinois and Georgia. He also says- "Notre Dame, Syracuse, Marquette, Northwestern, DePaul, Northern Iowa, Ball State, Minnesota, Valpo, Iowa, Bradley, UNLV, Northern Illinois, Missouri and Dayton are also in the mix."

Here is an update on one of the top 2008 kids in Illinois. Matthew Humphrey is a 6'5" shooting guard from Hales Franciscan High School. He is ranked in the top 5 kids in Illinois' class of 2008, and the #70 player in the country in the class of 2008. Rivals has a new article with an interview with him. He and his teammates are preparing for the Regionals this week. He is averaging 15 ppg, on a team with a couple other Division caliber recruits.

The article is from Rivals' premium side, but here are a couple things he said--
"The offers that I know of are Arizona State, Miami (Fla.), Clemson, Bradley, DePaul, Indiana and Iowa," Humphrey said. "There are some others, but my dad is handling most of that and he knows better than I do right now."

Nice to see that he still includes Bradley with that group of pretty impressive high-major programs. In fact, Bradley is the only mid-major included with Humphrey and with a number of the quality recruits for 2008 and 2009. It's clear Bradley's staff continues to do great work on the recruiting trail.

Matthew Humphrey continues to rise, and no longer lists Bradley among his schools. He is now a 4-star recruit on Scout.com. The latest reports are that Billy Gillispie of Kentuck has contacted him and is interested.

                    Do you guys ever sleep?

This college sports message board is the best I've ever read and having this much information (especially this late in the year) is simply fantastic! Cudo's to everyone who has contributed so much time, effort and research for the rest of us to read and enjoy!

Oh, and if you inside guys have "some time" can you create a table showing who's still interested in Bradley and who clearly is not? Kind of like your 'scholarship' grid!

Again thanks for all youse work!

                      Thanks for the compliments-
What you ask for would be difficult. Even the "inside" BU fans don't have any way of knowing which kids favor Bradley, how serious their interest is, and when they might drop BU. Unless the kids give that info out to a recruiting site (at which time we usually post it here) even the BU coaches may not know all these things about their recruits. But we'll try to keep up as best as we can with anything that changes, or any new names that emerge.

                        Humphrey is leaving Oregon

He would be a star at BU...

Nice player with potential, but I am not sure I agree about him being a guaranteed star in the MVC. Remember, last year we had an All-Big Ten player transfer into the MVC and fail to even make the honorable mention All-MVC team (Tony Freeman).

Humphrey was probably was a little overrated as a recruit out of high school. Scout had him rated as a 3-star, Rivals as a 4-star recruit.
At Oregon, he was injured part of last year, but even when he was healthy, he struggled at times to score and did not shoot a very high percentage for a SG. I would compare him to someone like Justin Bocot. He can be a streaky shooter and help win some games, but he can shoot you out of other games, or be a non-factor.

The much-traveled Matthew Humphrey is on the move again. He was a Bradley recruit back in 2008 when he was at Chicago Hales Franciscan HS. He went to Oregon, but left there a year ago after 2 seasons when they switched coaches. He transferred to Boston College and after sitting out a year, he plaed his junior season there last year.
Humphrey was Boston College's 2nd leading scorer last season-

But now he has graduated, and has decided to leave BC and transfer under the NCAA's graduate-transfer rule. He decided to transfer to West Virginia University where he will be eligible immediately-
