This article this morning by Greg Stewart says
"could have him in a Bradley uniform next December after BU's 2006 fall semester"

but the previous PJ Star article on Jan 7 by Greg Stewart said
"Williams would not be eligible to play at a Division I school again until the start of the 2007-08 season"

Can someone explain the discrepancy?

The article today says DeAaron was working out with ICC,
and it's been reported that Wisconsin is recruting Ping.
You think any words from DeAaron might have an influence on Ping and where he goes?
I can't help but think Ping would want to hear what DeAaron has to say about Bo.

DeAaron can be a fine player in the MVC. His athleticism can be a plus even tho his outside shooting is suspect.
Couisnard is a fine player at WSU but isn't a great outside shooter.
Tatum takes a ton of 3-pointers (23-92) and only makes a fourth of them, but he is their leading scorer.
Lawrence Wright is only 1-9 on 3-pointers, but has a 45% overall FG%.
And it might give BU that "difficult matchup" when DW can post up a guard but drive on a bigger player.
I am anxious to see him in a Braves uniform.

I recall several posters saying that DeAaron would be better off at BU or a midmajor than at a Big Ten school.

It matters if he enrolls at BU or ICC. If at BU, he would sit two semester and play in December 2006 after finals. If he enrolled at ICC, he would be there three semesters and could transfer to any D1 school with 2 years remaining.

Not so according to the way Greg Stewart explained it in his Jan. 7 article.
Here is what he says:
'But a new rule, instituted in March 2004, specifically prohibits midseason transfers from gaining eligibility at the new four-year school at midseason. That means Williams would not be eligible to play at a Division I school again until the start of the 2007-08 season."
According to Greg Stewart, there isn't any possible way, given the rules, to be eligible at a 4-year school until fall of 2007.

But in that post, WJ cites several other players who seemingly are eligible at midseason despite such a rule if it exists.
I am puzzled about such a rule if several players are transferring mid-season and apparently are eligible.

Well, that is false. Michael Thompson left Duke midseason and transferred to Northwestern. He was eligible December of 2004, which was long after this supposed rule went into effect. DW would be eligible next December.

For what this is worth, Bill Hodge, a national recruiting expert, is reporting that DeAaron Williams has "signed" with Bradley.
I actually don't think the NLI is valid in this case.

I fully agree with you and several posters who don't think any such new rule exists to cover anything like what's described.

Here is the paragraph from Greg Stewart-

"According to an NCAA rule, Williams must attend ICC one academic year, graduate and have passed 24 hours of classes at the junior college in order to transfer back to a four-year school.

Maybe he meant this statement to refer to transfers from JuCos, but it doesn't apply to transfers from one DI to another. It appears Williams will be eligible in Dec. of 2006 not start of 2007-2008.
