It doesn't hurt us. If anything it would help. Minnesota had a scholarship saved for Williams, and they had a scholarship saved for Darius Smith. Tubby said all along that if Smith didn't commit soon then he would pursue other options, and that other option turned out to be Cobbs, so basically Cobbs took the scholarship that would have belonged to Smith, had Smith decided to commit to Minnesota.

In my opinion, I think the team we have to watch out for regarding Darius Smith is Depaul. They have been terribly quiet this offseason recruiting-wise, and I know Depaul has been on Smith for a while, Smith has visited Depaul, and there was an offer on the table.
This is just the tip of the iceberg...

I just hope Darius Smith didn't like him while at Marshall.... hopefully it's not a draw to want to go play with him at DePaul!

DePaul has a reputation of turning good players into bad ones; probably has something to do with their poor coaching.

Yup, Jerry Wainwright might be the worst X's and O's coach in any of the major "BCS" conferences.

Wait. So, Iowa State is the new competition to get Darius Smith? Or are we talking top schools in the PAC-10 or ACC?

If it's Iowa State and DePaul, I still like how Bradley stacks-up, especially when we beat them both on their courts and ours.

Minnesota just got another committment from a 2009 junior college player, Trevor Mbakwe. Mbakwe is from Minnesota, and spent a year at Marquette, before transferring to Miami-Dade Junior College.

This commitment puts Tubby Smith at 14 scholarships committed for 2009, one more than the limit. So it appears even more certain that Minnesota is out of the running for Darius Smith.

This is the guy for us! I hope we hear real soon that he has commited to us and is signing the LOI during early signing period. We need a 2 guard right now to fill the hole we will have the following year. He would almost be guaranteed a starting position his Soph. year. He will be learning from PLOY candidate AW his freshman year.

                          I agree

Yes I would really love to get Darius to BU. I have to keep in mind that I really wanted L A Pomlee and Larry Anderson last year also. It seems that we replace recruits with other great recruits when we miss. Taylor Brown and John Wilkins are just about as good as the two I wanted. Wilkins could be better. You never know how things will work out. I sure would like a defensive stopper added to all the talent we already have. And I know Darius is more than just a stopper.

Hope Darius makes a visit soon and commits as it would be a great fit for both parties.

                              Should know soon

Well November 12th is the beginning of early signing. I would think Darius would be signing with someone during the early period. If he does go somewhere else, I am not sure if we sign someone in the early period or wait till the late signing date. I am sure we have other players on our list, I just am not sure if they would want to wait and see if anyone comes from nowhere to have a great senior season. It may be nice to save one for the late period if we can't get our top choice.

I just hope Darius doesn't choose Depaul. I could understand if he went to Kentucky,Minnesota,Iowa, but I think we are a much better situation for him than Depaul. I think Wainright could be getting close to being in trouble if they don't win soon. I don't think they can win big in their conference. Depaul seems to recruit well, but it never seems to materialize in wins. We would be loaded if he came here. All I see that we could be possibly short is a great three point shooter. We would have a bunch of big guys that can shoot from outside, but I am not sure if Taylor Brown, or Darian Norris could be the great outside shooter.

DePaul was picked to finish 15th this year in the Big East. I don't see them doing any better than that. And from what I have heard from someone close to the DePaul situation, Wainwright would have to have a very good year to be retained, and I think Smith realizes that. The DePaul admins are committed to staying in the Big East, but they don't like being the doormat. And DePaul's future is not looking much better. The only recruit they have for 2009 is a 2-star juco.

I believe that if Darius Smith was interested in DePaul, he would have made a commitment to them by now.
