Since Darius Smith did not commit after his visit to Minnesota, it looks like Tubby Smith is moving on. Minnesota is entertaining another 6'3" point guard this weekend, and they are expecting to get a commitment from him. In this article from the Minnesota Scout site, they say Darius Smith is expected to "stay in state"--

The listings of which schools have offered is often inaccurate. On Rivals, Bradley is shown as having offered.

If you read some of the earlier articles in this thread it states that Bradley was his first and only offer for a while. Considering he has been our top recruiting priority I dont think there is much doubt that we have offered.Last edited by mike radigan; 09-21-2008, 09:52 AM.

Premium report from the Minnesota Rivals site, GopherIllustrated.com--
Gophers land lead guard
Tubby Smith and staff added their second commitment to the 2009 class when Justin Cobbs gave the staff a verbal Saturday night. The 6-foot-1 Cobbs arrived at Minnesota Friday night and took his official visit over the weekend. Cobbs was joined by Cooper forward Rodney Williams who is expected to be the next Gopher verbal.
Cobbs was a 2-star recruit yesterday, but now Rivals has him as a 3-star recruit--

The key to success in this business is "to not tell them something they don't know, but to tell them what they want to hear."
A simple rule-based application in this case could make someone tons of money with revenue from subscriptions and adverstising and paractically no labor cost.

Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

That was posted early last week on IllinoisPrepBullseye (9/15). And it shows that you can't always rely on what the recruiting experts say. Harv & Roy Schmidt, who run IllinoisPrepBullseye do a great job and have connections with a lot of people, but they reported that Brown's recruitment "appears to be a three-horse race between" WMU, Loyola, and Missouri State. But other reports still have Bradley in the mix, so it looks like they missed that one.
And, I am sure Darius Smith wants to go as high as he can go, and is considering all his options. Although I do not have any inside connection with him, I would be willing to bet that Kentucky's interest is in trying to make Darius Smith believe they want him so they can talk him into holding off making a commitment. He is nothing more than a fall-back option to them. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is typical of the cutthroat way Billy Gillispie recruits.
They already have a commitment from highly rated 2009 point guard G.J. Villarino and another highly rated shooting guard, Jon Hood. And they are still in the hunt for the #1 player in the country, point guard John Wall, as well as 4-star point guard Chris Colvin. Hopefully, Darius Smith is smart enough to know the situation.

Kentucky hasn't offered. What a lot of BCS coaches do is tell kids that they are very interested in them, when in reality they have their eyes on a different recruit. In this case, Darius Smith would be a fall-back option for Kentucky while they pursue other kids who are ranked higher. It's kind of like when you're picking colleges and you have your "safety school." I think Kentucky is trying to make Smith their "safety recruit."This is just the tip of the iceberg...
