BU recruit- class of 2008- Antiquawn Beckham

Antiquawn Beckham is a 6'5" combo guard originally from Louisville Ballard high school, who committed to IUPUI out of high school. But he decided to attend a prep school in hopes of higher offers. Bradley recruited him in high school, and Beckham still lists an offer from Bradley, among others, so it appears Bradley is still involved with him.

Three-star prospect Antiquawn Beckham originally signed with IUPUI out of Louisville (Ky.) Ballard High School but opted for New Hampton (N.H.) Prep instead in hopes of raising his stock. Now a number of quality mid-major programs are pursuing the 6-foot-5, 185-pound combo guard.

Presently, Beckham lists offers from Bradley, Ohio, Louisiana-Monroe, Ball State, Wichita State, Northern Iowa, Creighton, Colorado State and Santa Clara. He is also receiving interest from VCU, Tulsa, UAB and Penn State, but is far from formulating an official school list.

He is averaging about 16 points per game and says he is still wide open in his recruiting.

It sounds like Bradley is still very much involved. Here are the important points of the article--

In high school Antiquawn Beckham showed great court vision and an ability to get to the basket, but his shooting ability was always a question mark. Now at New Hampton (N.H.) School, ???Twanny??? is changing his reputation.
Beckham, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound guard, who is averaging 18 points a contest, hit five three-pointers in a recent game, with a Georgia Tech assistant was on hand to see him.
???Most coaches questioned my shooting and a lot of coaches know that I can get to the basket and score, but don??™t know if I??™m going to knock the jump shot down,??? Beckham said. ???Now they are starting to see that I can knock them down consistently every night.???
To go with the Yellow Jackets, Bradley, East Carolina, Wichita State and Creighton have all made trips to see him recently and a few of them stepped up their efforts with a scholarship offer.
???St. John??™s just called and wanted to know if I as interested in taking a visit after the season is over,??? Beckham said. ???Bradley and East Carolina offered me recently. Wichita State and Bradley were here last week and Creighton has been hitting me hard.
???I??™m still wide open." At this point, Georgia Tech is starting to make some waves with the talented combo guard. Although they still haven??™t offered, they are planning to send their head man up to evaluate Beckham. With all of the recruiting attention and improvement that Beckham has made, it appears his gamble to go to prep school has paid off. He said he??™ll likely make his decision after taking a few visits.

Beckham is originally from Louisville, so he was home visiting, and took an unofficial visit to Kentucky. I am sure he would love to go to Kentucky, and probably hopes he will get an offer, but that seems unlikely.
But note that in the article, Demling quotes Beckham as saying he has offers from--"Alabama Birmingham, Wichita State, Creighton, Colorado State, Northern Iowa, Ball State, Santa Clara and Ohio. St. John's, Virginia and Marquette have shown some interest, while he just talked with Mississippi State tonight."
Anyone else notice that he completely omits Bradley?
This is no surprise. Recall that Demling is the writer who last summer calimed Matt Roth was down to Indiana and St. Louis, when in fact he had not yet eliminated Bradley. Roth's family was reportedly upset by the snub of Bradley, and made it known that Bradley was still in the picture. Yet Demling never acknowledged that. This is just one more example of writers who follow major schools like IU, KU, and Louisville, who prefer to pretend schools like Bradley simply don't exist, so it is easier to completely ignore them when talking about recruits.

This article reports that Beckham made the unofficial visit to Kentucky Saturday, to check out the campus and watch KU take on Florida.
The article says he had a good time at Kentucky, but that none of the Kentucky coaches have ever seen him play, and requested some tapes of him.

Kentucky just got a verbal tonight from juco 6'6" wing guard Kevin Galloway. He originally was one of the top recruited high school players in the country before committing to Southern Cal a couple years ago. He is one of the top rated jucos in the country. He is the leading assist man in D1 juco at 8.3 per game, to go along with 8.8 points per game..

With Galloway's commitment, and the previous commitment of prep school guard DeAndre Liggins and the fact that Gillispie still wants to land super Kentucky high schooler Scotty Hopson, this essentailly removes any chance Kentucky would use a scholarship for Beckham, IMO. It also effectively eliminates Verdell Jones, who was also considering Kentucky.

What really burns me about the Scout.com article is how the site talks about how great of a move it was for Beckham to screw over IUPUI and go to a prep school. Would they be saying that if he decided not to go to Illinois and ended up at UAB or Kentucky? Why is it a great move to screw over one DI school for another, regardless of name? Sites like Scout and Rivals only contribute to the stupidity and ignorance of the major v mid-major argument.
