  • BU recruit- class of 2008 juco- Roberto Mafra

Bradley is recruiting Roberto Mafra, a 6'10", 235 pound forward/center in his second year at Southeastern Community College in Keokuk, Iowa.
He is originally from Reife, Brazil.
After their first 8 games, he lead the team with 16.4 points per game and 7.75 rebounds per game, and was shooting 63.4% from the floor, and 72.2% from the free throw line. He is also averaging 3.5 blocks per game.--

    Roberto Mafra's roster page--

    The SCC Blackhawk's basketball website--

CSTV and Hoopmasters have him as the #70 best juco player in the class of 2008--
CBS Sports features live scoring, news, stats, and player info for NFL football, MLB baseball, NBA basketball, NHL hockey, college basketball and football.

Rivals profile- Bradley is not listed, but I have heard from another authority that they are involved--

    Premium Rivals article--

"Roberto has really been solid for us this season. He has made great progress from last season and he must continue to work hard," said Grzanich.

Murray State, Wichita State, Idaho State and Indiana State have all shown interest on the 4/5 man this fall. Mafra is off to a great start this season. He is currently averaging 16.3 ppg and 7.7 rebounds while shooting 63.4% (52-82) from the floor.

Good to see the Braves are still recruiting some Bigs for the future! Sounds like a good player!

I played a year of baseball with Jon Grzanich maybe a call into him will help us seal the deal with Roberto Mafra.

Seriously, he looks from his numbers to be a decent rebounder with a good touch both from the field and the line but he averages a lot of turnovers at 2.6 per game.

We are on the same page with that Big Mike. Good news to hear.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

For those who don't know, John Grzanich, a former head coach at Spoon River CC, is now an assistant coach at Southeastern CC--

I was just surfing on the recruiting website of Jody Demling and ran across this entry from today
in which he says University of Kentucky is after Roberto Mafra.

Jucojunction.com has a new premium article about Southeastern CC--

Here is a bit of what is said about Roberto Mafra. Bradley is not mentioned--
Roberto Mafra: (SO) 6-foot-10 (235) from Brazil.
"Roberto has really been solid for us this season. He has made great progress from last season and he must continue to work hard," said Grzanich.

The latest on juco big man Roberto Mafra--

JucoJunction.com reports that he visited the University of San Diego this weekend, and while there, he committed to the USD Toreros. The article and the Jucojunction profile no longer mention Bradley, so I assume he had eliminated BU already.

                        Mafra

Well I would think we thought we had better options. San Diego would be a great place to go to college but USD is light years lower than The Valley as far as quality of league. He sounded like he had some offensive ability which is why I thought he sounded interesting. Maybe that was misleading if people say he has a long way to go. I hope we could get a couple Iowa Juco's next year though. I am hoping we get a away from signing so many JUCO's. I would wave that rule for Buycks or Leon Powell.

Well they looked pretty good wipping Gonzaga and the conference is going to get 3 in the NCAA tournament so I guess I may be wrong about level of play. Although I still think overall the Valley is better.

Why would you have that for Buycks or Powell? Most JUCO players are in the exact same boat. Since we recruited them out of high school also, they are some how better than other JUCO's? They have all the same drawbacks people hate about JUCO guys. Just curious as to the reasoning.

The drawback that I don't like about Juco's is only having them 2 years. And yes they would be in the same boat. I just think they are a higher level of talent than we have been getting and I would take the tradeoff.
