I like the size a lot, it will be interested to see how he improves this year scoring-wise. I am also interested in his 3-point shooting ability, as it's such a vital part of our offense (40% looks good so far). I would have preferred a 4-year player, but until proven otherwise I will trust the staff on this one. Sounds like Coach Brooks is delivering on the recruiting trail, it will be very interesting to see how his guys pan out on the court.

Chris Roberts, (SO) 6-foot-4 (170) from Navarro College in Texas, will be a Bradley Brave next season. Roberts visited the Bradley campus this past weekend and liked what he saw.
Roberts, originally from Fort Worth, TX, averaged 9.1 ppg, three rebounds and two steals last season for the Bulldogs. Chris took official visits to Utah State and Wichita State besides his trip to the Peoria, IL campus of Bradley.
"Roberts is a quick athletic wing player that can slash to the basket and finish at the rim," said JucoJunction staff member Bret Swanson.

It reports that he was impressed with a visit to Wichita State last weekend (the same weekend Chris Roberts visited Wichita State), and decided to end his recruitment and accept a scholarship. They report that Wichita was his only offer so far.Comment

It's worth noting here that Utah State is no slouch. Stew Morrill is a very accomplished coach and USU is one of only 4 programs to win 23 games the last 4 years in a row (or something like that).
It's easy to dwell on recruiting losses to Sampson et al but Les has had to out-recruit some real solid guys like Matt Doherty, Morrill, Reggie Theus when he was at NMSU, Billy Gillespie at TA&M, etc.Comment

Morrills teams at Utah State have been very good. And though we recognize that MVC teams like Bradley have a tough time recuiting top talent, Utah State must also be a tough place to recruit to. It's a nice campus with great facilities, but Logan, Utah is really remote and not easy to get to.
The distance to any decent sized city, and some conservative laws and traditions there make it a little less desirable to many recruits looking to have a good time in their college years.

Great point, and something I was thinking about myself today. I think people need to realize is that we're not going to win very many head-to-head battles, if any, with any noteworthy BCS schools. We just aren't. We as a fan base should not get as upset when a guy drops us for the Big East or Big 10, or feel like we're 'settling' when we land a guy who had only top mid-majors after him like Utah St or Wichita St. It is an accomplishment that we're noted and published as finalists with a number of these top recruits. If anything, BU being associated with the Shumpert's and Simpson's makes the tier of players that are perhaps just a notch below those blue-chippers want to be a part of our program even more. We've seen how those guys can blossom in '05-'06 and '06'-'07. Heck, we got a lottery pick of it. Until our talent level dips below the top 2-3 in the conference, I think we all need to trust the staff on guys we land. I'm not saying that Chris Roberts is going to be an all-American, but let's wait and see just what he turns out to be. We just landed a Top 30 recruiting class, mostly made up of guys who weren't even our first options. Not to mention JL is behind the 8 ball so to speak when it comes to 'bells ands whistles". Sure he can now show a recruit a video and and drawing of the facilites but thats a far cry from setting foot in the new digs. We also don't have the nicest campus, not saying its bad, just relatively speaking it doesn't compare to many places.
BU isn't a name that jumps out at recruits either allthough the sweet 16 run obviously helped. Another nice run and the new digs and those near misses could turn into an occasional commitment.Comment

Truth be told, Chris Roberts couldn't go wrong whichever way he decided. The long 6-foot-3, 195-pound wing at Navarro College in Corsicana had three solid mid-major programs with winning histories as choices, and there was something about each school he liked. But after taking official visits to all three, Roberts thought things over, talked with those close to him, and narrowed his school list down to one.
On Monday night, Roberts picked up the phone and informed Bradley head coach Jim Les that he'd be a Brave.
Roberts reflected on his visit which took place two weekends ago. "I liked how well organized it was," he continued. "They made me feel like I was at home and I was the person that they were looking for. They mentioned the practice facility they were building. And Coach (Jim) Les - he was in the NBA for seven years, so he has some experience - and that will all help me get to the next level."
Texas Hoops Analysis: CHRIS is a long and athletic wing who does a lot of things well. He is a good scorer in transition, can really elevate and finish at the rim, handles it well in the open court, sees the floor well, is active on defense and plays with energy.Comment

and another source told me that one of the strongest deciding factors that helped make the final decision for Chris was his interaction with some of the great Bradley fans that he met on his weekend visit to Peoria!Comment
