  • BU recruit- class of 2008- Zack Novak

Bradley is listed as recruiting a 6'5" shooting guard from the class of 2008, Zack Novak from Chesterton, Indiana.--

Here is an article about him. He averaged 21.7 points and 8.5 rebounds last season. He plays for the Indiana Elite, the same AAU team as Matt Roth, Lewis Jackson, and Tyler Zeller.--

Scout.com has a new article about Zach Novak. He plays at Chesterton HS in Indiana and their team is 13-0 and Novak is averaging an impressive 29 points per game.

This site refers to Novak as a class of 2009 recruit, but that is an error. He is a senior (class of 2008 ).--

Zach and his Chesterton’s teammates are off to a school record 13-0 start. They are currently ranked 5th in the state. Novak, a 6’4 combination guard/forward is averaging 29 points a game which is second best in the state. He shoots over 40% from beyond the arc, 53% from the field, 70% from the free throw line as well as averaging close to 8 rebounds a game. He recently broke the schools all time scoring record which stood for over 50 years. Zach also played for the Indiana Elite 17-U AAU team which is considered one of the best in the country. Do you want more? Well, Zach is a high honor role student who is respected by everyone you talk to and the respect is for him as a person, not just the basketball player.
I talked to Zach recently and was blown away by his character. Zach really wanted to talk more about his teammates and the fact that his team is 13-0 than spend the time talking about him. He did mention that his recruiting is still wide open with his scholarship offers coming from IPFW and Oakland. I expect that he will start to get more attention as Ball State’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Bob Simmons was present at Chesterton’s 67-47 win over Michigan City. Other schools starting to show interest include: Michigan, Purdue, Iowa, Northwestern, Valparaiso, Dayton and Bradley.
All I know is who ever is lucky enough to get this young man will be getting a steal. It is hard enough to find great basketball players but it is even harder to find the combination of great player and great person. You can be rest assured BallStateInsider.com will be watching Zach’s recruiting very closely.

There is a new article about Zach Novak from the University of Michigan Rivals site, thewolverine.com. The article may require a password.--

      Novak's profile--

It reports that Michigan head coach John Beilein recently stopped in Chesterton, Indiana to watch one of Zach Novak's practices. Novak will is scheduled to visit Michigan for their home game with Ohio State Sunday.

Here is a bit more of what is said in the article--
Guard Zack Novak, 6-5, from Chesterton, Ind., has helped lead his team to a 16-1 record with two weeks to go before the state playoffs, averaging 28 points, 8 rebounds per game. He set the school scoring record in the fall and has continued his amazing clip to earn recent interest from Colorado State, Wake Forest and others, most recently U-M.

Beilein and Valparaiso coaches were in Chesterton Tuesday to catch a practice.
"He just told me he enjoyed coming to watch me practice," said Novak. "He's seen a couple of kids already and he's still looking, but he said he liked what he saw."

Novak said he wasn't at his best during scrimmages but felt he played and shot well overall in front of the Michigan coach, arranging for him to take some film back to Ann Arbor. He was impressive enough that the U-M coaches invited him up for an unofficial visit this weekend, one he'll probably begin Saturday and continue through Sunday's home game with Ohio State.

"It's exciting to know a Big Ten program is interested. [Beilein] is just getting started in his first year there, so he's just trying to work to get things going and get the guys to understand his system, just looking for the right guys to do it. Our high school kind of runs something similar, so I feel like I could be a good fit. He likes guys who can shoot, and it sounds like he wants someone who can see the court and pass well, too."

Despite the recent interest, Novak is in no hurry to make a decision.

"I'm pretty open, but like I said, I like the Big Ten," he said. "Right now I'm going to concentrate on finishing up the year. The tournament is not this next week but two weeks from now, so I'll go through and stay focused on that."

This is another kid I wish we could have landed. He's currently Michigan's 3rd leading scorer and is shooting 46.4% from 3 this year.
