I think the team is already built. Hopefully DC can come in and fill the role of rebounder, defender, shot-blocker, and finisher in the paint. We have all of the other pieces already in place.
Yes I agree...this isn't POB (building around him had he stayed 4 years) this is more a piece to complement whats allready in place, as you stated.

This is a Matt Salley signing with 5 more inches in height.....
This guy needs to be a little better than Salley. Salley did his best and did contribute, but was very weak around the basket and with the basketball IMO.
    Onward and Upward!

Are you sayin were not built around Matt Salley? Come on he's carrying on the double deuce legacy. No I agree were not building a team aorund him. I think the way our teams works now where we're not built around any one person as we have been in the past. Which I really like and think it allows to develop and perfect a system, rather than a player.

David Collins is not going to be a big scorer. But, when it comes to big men at Jucos, don't trust the stats too much. Usually the guards lead these juco schools in scoring, take most of the shots, hog the ball, and average very few assists. The big men just don't get the ball very much. They are all vying to get attention and a scholarship to a 4 year school.

Here are a few other examples--
Jason Francis- he is 6'9", 275 lbs. and is the #76 rated juco player in the US. He is being recruited by a couple big East programs and by Rhode Island. He is averaging 6.7 ppg and 5.5 rpg according to the 4/4/07 Jucojunction article.--

Cassin Diggs- is a 6'10" center who signed with Pitt last November and had a bunch of other majors vying for him as well as Bradley. He is the #1 center prospect in Jucojunctions list. His final averages for 2007 were 9.9 ppg and 6 rpg.

Quentin Thornton, who is signed to LSU--

Ricardo De Bem, who chose Texas Tech over Indiana and Tennesee--

Desmond Hendrix, who started the season as the #1 rated center and committed to LSU, but withdrew his committment. He averaged just 4 ppg and 4.3 rpg.--

D'Lancy Carter- a 6'9" center from Vincennes is being recruited by Illinois State and a bunch of others, mostly majors. He has been offered by Rhode Island. He averages just 4.1 ppg.--

These and many more of the top centers and power forwards on Jucojunction's list averaged well under 10 points per game.

Here is the Jucojunction listing of Juco rankings.
The stats for all jucos can be found at www.njcaa.org

I don't know much about him but is it unreasonable to expect 8-10, 7-9, and 1.5?

I remember people saying the Will Franklin signing wasn't that good....he was only a back-up recruit.....doesn't score enough pts........but once this staff gets a hold of you....good things happen boys......BOOK IT!

Great post by Da Coach. This guy could score 10+ ppg in our system. It's hard to find 7 footers, we should be excited about the dimension it can add to our team.

I'd wait until he gets on campus this summer and perhaps until we see him in red-white before tabbing him for numbers, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. 7 footers with basketball skills and athleticism, even when a step slow and/or not fully developed, can thrive in the MVC. It sounds like this guy has both.

DW has a scholarship, and plays a different position. We needed a big guy, not a slashing perimeter player.

Sorry didn't mean Salley in terms of talent but moreso as to what he meant in terms of need.

It's amazing the interest the signing of a big man generates. This thread has been going for just 2 1/2 hours and has 56 replies and almost 700 views. Unbelieveable!

Here is an article from ChicagoHoops.com, usually the first site in the Illinois region to pick up on Bradley and other college commitments--
Head Coach Jim Les And The Bradley Braves Land 7-0 Juco Center David Collins From Missouri State-West Plains

If Chicgo Hoops is not stretching it too much in saying, "The 7-0 Collins is a long and highly active player on both ends of the basketball court. His length, athleticism and ability to run the floor make him an ideal fit for the Bradley system" then this signing is fantastic.

DB....perhaps we will be watching him together with a few other Brave fans at the San Padre Shootout then discussing a BU win over a couple cold ones and victory cigars at a local Texas golf course.
