  • BU recruit- 2016 juco- Tre'Darius McCallum

Bradley is recruiting Tre'Darius McCallum, a 6'7", 215 pound sophomore forward at Indian Hills CC in Ottumwa, Iowa. It does not appear there is an offer yet.
DJ Jackson - 2 Star Weakside defensive end for Louisiana Tech on BleedTechBlue

McCallum is originally from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He spent his freshman college season at Sheridan College in Wyoming. Five of his teammates on the Indian Hills roster have already committed to D1 schools (Nuni Omat to Baylor, Emmitt Holt to Providence, and Ria'n Holland to Mercer, and Kevin Zabo and Jerelle Beberry to Kent State). They were one of the top junior college teams in the country last season, they averaged 96 points per game, and finished 29-5.

Tre'Darius McCallum averaged 11.8 ppg (3rd on the team), 6.3 rpg (2nd on the team), and he shot 55.5% overall, and an impressive 40.8% from three (31-76). He was 65.4% from the FT line. He played behind a couple juco All American big men, so he mostly came off the bench, but he did start 9 of his 32 games.
    Stats-

There are a fewl videos on YouTube from his high school days if anyone is interested (McCallum is #5 in the white or blue uniform)-

McCallum was 6-6 and played guard for his high school team and was a decent 3-pt shooter
He did not play the last half of his senior high school season (2012-13) then played in 2013-14 at South Carolina Sports Academy - a prep school that played against a lot of juco teams.

Here's a box score from November 2013 and he scored 19 pts & grabbed 7 rebs against a pretty good juco team.

then in January of 2014 he left the SCSA and enrolled at Sheridan College in Wyoming.
He was not eligible for the remainder of 2013-14, but then in 2014- 15 he played a few early season games, doing quite well at times (LINK) then disappearing from the team's roster after December 2014 - then he left Sheridan and transferred to Indian Hills for 2015-16.
By then he had grown another inch, put on some bulk and changed his game a bit, becoming more of a low post player but still taking a few outside shots.

    - so he's already three years out of high school - and 3 of the past four years he did not complete the season with the team he was on.

According to verbalcommits.com- DePaul has more current outstanding offers than any other school I can find...
They have at least 57 offers out there...Bradley has 13 offers listed...
I realize that possibly all those offers may no longer be in effect but DePaul sure does offer a lot of kids...must get turned down a ton....

Tre'Darius McCallum was rated 2-stars at the highest. Looks like Dave Leitao is following the same recruiting philosopy as Jerry Wainwright and Oliver Purnell- they keep thinking that if they stock their rosters with enough mid-major caliber talent, 2 and 3-star kids, maybe the can compete with the other Big East schools. But all it's done is lead to 9 horrible losing seasons in a row in the Big East.
Every one of Leitao's 2016 recruits is a mid-major recruit at best- none higher than a 2 or 3 star rating. One is even a fugitive from Division II, while other Big East teams keep landing 4 and 5-star kids and feasting on the bottom dwellers like DePaul.
Wainwright and Purnell already proved you can't compete in the Big East without higher level recruits, but I guess Leitao has to learn that lesson all over again.
