hope he's happy there-- he really is the best talent in juco ball and could help almost anyone right away...
BUT - at least a dozen good players have transferred out of there over just the past few years - many under some really troubling circumstances, charges, lawsuits..
and only a couple guys play big minutes - everyone else platoons to absorb the rest of the minutes...but the guy likely to play ahead of him Chris Boucher does not appear to be going to declare for the draft - so Kavell might be a backup in year-1
The only publicly known JC player that Bradley is recruiting and is undecided seems to be McSwain. Maybe I'm a pessimist but it is hard to see any recruited freshman other than a point guard having much of an impact in there freshman year.
The only publicly known JC player that Bradley is recruiting...
there have been other juco kids that we are connected with...
I know at least one of them has been offered and vigorously recruited - and I suspect there are others that we do not know about
it's early but...
we are beginning to see that just maybe Kavell Bigby-Williams might have aimed too high in going to Oregon..
In their exhibition games he started and played a lot but in no time at all he has dropped to the 8-12 minute per game, deep back-up role and today his stat line looked like this...
0-3, 1 FT, 1 point, 3 rebs, 3 fouls, no asst, no blk, no stl in 12 min
..not the kind of numbers that'll earn more playing time...
Too bad, cuz he'd be a stud in the MVC
Kavell played just two minutes last night for Oregon in Maui...
meanwhile, Alec Peters, who chose to go mid-major - helped his team win the top Las Vegas Tourney - the MGM Grand Main Event
with 26 points and 12 rebs in Valpo's win over BYU
here's an audio interview with Freddie McSwain's coach...on an Indiana site...
the interviewer kinda shocked that Freddie would ever think he'd get more than 10 minutes per game as a backup - even if he turns out to be everything they hope!!
Freddie - listen carefully to what this IU guy is saying - they just want McSwain as a back-up if all other options fail.
In addition to Kavell Bigby-Williams barely playing...(he's a juco kid so he's only got two seasons!)
..another 2016 Bradley recruit who is playing very little is Freddie McSwain
..he only plays every other game for a minute or two of garbage time - tonight in a Hoosier blowout of SEMO he got 9 minutes and scored his 6th basket of the season.
He would have been playing full time here..
Unfortunately many kids don't understand this point either in Juco or HS. Many shoot for the highest possible level instead of looking at fit. I think there were few people on this board that believed with the roster IU was bringing back and the kids coming in that he was going to play a huge role. I hope he ends up getting in the rotation, but even still he would have been a key cog here most likely.
The two big name juco guys that Bradley did go hard after last spring with our recruiting...Kavell Bigby-Williams & Freddie McSwain...
have both played very little and been far from even minimally productive this season....
That have both pretty much had to sit and wait their turns...
but that might just change...
-Oregon State's top scorer FORWARD Dillon Brooks injured his foot in their last game and may be unavailable.
Kavell Bigby-Williams (3.5 ppg) had only been playing 5 minutes or so as deep backup, but now will have the chance to step in and earn more minutes
-Indiana has been hit even harder...
their TWO different forwards who have started most games, AG Anuoby and Juwan Morgan - are both out with injury - Anuoby is out for the rest of the season..
But check out this comment... "Tom Crean’s down to walk-on Zach McRoberts as the Hoosiers’ primary option at forward —
with only Freddie McSwain available to back him up." http://www.crimsonquarry.com/2017/1/...michigan-state...
