  • BU recruit- class of 2014 juco- Rod Lawrence

Bradley has reportedly offered a scholarship to Rod Lawrence, a 6'4" shooting guard from South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
He is a sophomore averaging 12.9 ppg and 5.5 rpg for South Plains, and he shoots 33.3% from three. They are 20-2, and were the #1 ranked junior college team in the country a week ago, but they lost their last game and will drop in the polls.

He is originally from Orlando, Florida. He initially committed to Morehead State, but then decommitted when Morehead State had a coaching change. He got late offers from Penn State and Miami University (Ohio), and chose Miami. However, in the first week of school at Miami, he got into some kind of trouble, and was dismissed from the team by Coach John Cooper "for reasons of detrimental conduct". He ended up at South Plains, where he averaged 6.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, and 30.7% from three as a freshman.
One recruiting site says "he has offers from Rhode Island, UTEP, Pepperdine, Bradley and Cal Poly as well as interest from Creighton."

Roderick Lawrence continues to pick up offers- Mississippi offered him tonight to go along with Creighton, and a number of mid-majors including Bradley.

A Mississippi recruiting site suggests that they promised him he'd get Marshall Henderson's shots. That's a lot of shots.

I had heard Roderick Lawrence was one of Bradley's top 3 targets with the remaining scholarships. Now we are down to Yarbrough and Cunningham at the top of the list, with the next tier of guys being Sears, Jones, Tucker, and a couple "others" not previously named. Some of the others are juco, and some are HS.

There are a lot of other reasons to attend Old Miss. besides the promise of a lot of shots. Had the pleasure of seeing there campus back in the mid 80's when we played them between Christmas and New Years. Scenery wasn't to bad even during the break and it was warm enough to play golf. Which we did before heading home. Wish we could have gotten him but not a bad choice.

I suspect many in the SEC wouldn't be too scared of that...
even tho Marshall Henderson was a good player and a good scorer...and for all the hype and all the talk of how great a player Henderson was...........
still - all his shooting did not help as much as some would think...

He averaged 19ppg but...required a ton of shots to get those points (almost 500 shot attempts and almost 400 from the arc)
...none of his shooting percentages (overall or 3-pt pct) were among the league's leaders, their 9-9 conference record was worse than people had picked them, and he only went to the FT line 4 times a game!
... and most will tell you that once the conference season started Ole Miss became easy & predictable to guard since they pretty much knew exactly what their game plan was whenever it touched Marshall's hands.
After looking like a sure NCAA team early on, then in their last 10 games - precisely when they needed to win to get to the post-season - Ole Miss lost 7 of them, some blowouts.

It will be interesting to see if Wardle follows up on the earlier offers for 2016. I believe I have counted at least 13 offers.

It doesn't seem to make much sense for him to recruit a kid who has just 1 year of eligibility left and who has to sit out a year, especially amkid like this who has some kind of issues. IMO, he would not be leaving Mississippi with one year left if there wasn't a serious problem.
