  • BU recruit- class of 2008- Brett Thompson

Bradley is recruiting a big kid from Vienna, Illinois (class A).
Brett Thompson is a 6'11" kid who has not gotten much publicity because he plays for such a small school in the far southern part of Illinois.
He is a junior, class of 2008.
He is not in the database of several of the big recruiting services (Rivals and Scout).

In a recent interview, he says he has scholarship offers from St. Louis, LSU and Southern Illinois.
He says he has interest from Purdue, Notre Dame, LSU, MSU, Southern Illinois, St. Louis, Northwestern, and Bradley.
He says St. Louis is the leader at this time.

ChicagoHoops rates him as the #9 kid in the Illinois calss of 2008--

There was this mention in the PJ Star of Bradley scouting him earlier this month (see 12/4 entry)--

Here is a new article posted today (12/19) on the Scout service, that reports that Big Tem member Michigan has recently been in contact with Thompson. It is a premium article--

Brett Thompson has not accepted a scholarship offer from LSU, i recently spoke to his parents who said that LSU is barely recruiting him if at all. The LSU offer was just a rumor

So i spoke Bretts father today who said that LSU has started picking up the recruitment of Brett, but i was unsure if he was implying the offer was there or not. Some people were saying that Brett was going to commit to LSU, but he said he is waiting until taking all 5 official visits. Brett has over 5 big ten offers!!!

Bradley has offered and is in the kid's top choices.

"Three-star center Brett Thompson is pushing 7-feet, and the skilled big man from Vienna (Ill.) High School is racking up high-major offers.

Purdue, Indiana, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Missouri State, Southern Illinois and Bradley have all offered the 6-foot-11, 265-pound Thompson

"Brett has 12 offers on the table right now," said Coach Metcalf.

This high school season, Thompson averaged 16 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks per game while shooting 41 percent from the three-point line.

8 BLOCKS! I'm assuming most of that is because he's 7 foot playing against much smaller competition. But if he could get a quarter of the in college that'd be amazing!

Fine with me as I like a 7 footer that doesn't think he is a guard.

New Scout article says Brett Thompson has trimmed his list down to 4- Alabama, Iowa State, Indiana, and St. Louis. He just eliminated Purdue and Notre Dame, and previously eliminated Bradley, Illinois, and SIU.
