BU recruit- class of 2014- Milik Yarbrough

Bradley is now recruiting uncommitted senior Milik Yarbrough, a 6'6" wing forward from Zion-Benton High School in Zion, Illinois.

He visited Auburn last month and a Rivals.com article said this-

Yarbrough holds offers from Minnesota, Iowa, Tulsa, Auburn an illinois. Following his visit down south, Yarbrough has the Tigers among his favorites.

"They are definitely top three -- I love the school, it's a good place to be. I'm going to go on more visits to check it out, but I don't think it will get better than this," said Yarbrough.

Yarbrough said Minnesota, Iowa and Auburn are his top three schools in no particular order. He plans to visit Minnesota in October, and Tulsa, Iowa and DePaul down the road.

It's reported that he will visit the Bradley campus soon.

Milik was at ISU's game Monday night so possibly they are are also in the mix...
Milik Yarbrough is a similar player to Donte Thomas....a 6-5 wing forward who puts up pretty good scoring numbers...
but Yarbrough handles the ball fairly well so he can play SG - ..although SG is the one position we would seem deepest at (Grier, Bell, Swop, Zecevic) - but never hurts to build for the future
I would love to have him despite a few negatives that are why such a good player is still available only a couple months before graduation....

From the reports I have read, he may be a more dynamic scorer than anyone we currently have. However, it all depends on how hard he works to improve.

I want the guy -- he's scored well over 2000 points in high school -
WE HAVE TO GET PLAYERS WHO CAN PUT THE BALL IN THE HOOP!

Check this out.........we have 15 players currently on the roster - two are w/o's and 13 are scholarship players...
and I don't mean to be harsh but it's a fact that all but one have never been significant scorers....
We have a roster full of guys who have never demonstrated significant offensive ability!


of the 15....fourteen of them did not average over 11 ppg last year....so what should we have reasonably expected this year?

Only Walt Lemon did better than 11 ppg....
and many, if not most, have never averaged more than 12-14 ppg no matter where they played...
So sure some might have other qualities, some are defenders, some are rebounders, maybe even an attempt at getting a ball-handler..
But with the exception of Walt Lemon who's been playing out of his natural position for 3 years -
none of our current players has ever been a substantial scorer at any level higher than HS ball.

How is it many fans have seen this coming for 3 years - you bring in guys who aren't scorer, then you expect them to suddenly become good shooters and good scorers at the DI level?

So why are we not trying to get guys who can score - this seems to be a pretty easy slam-dunk point of logic.....
I have been saying this for 3 years and last spring's recruiting class is, again, no different from the pattern we've seen for 3 years --
we keep recruiting guys who aren't big scorers.
Is it any wonder we had trouble scoring outside of Walt Lemon? It shouldt bother fans for next year and the year beyond.

T, I think we all hope they turn out. Wishful thinking i guess. Then when they dont we are disappointed. I thgought Anthony Fields would be our starting point guard this year. You can see how that worked out

I think a lot of us thought Fields would be our starting PG last season. Heck he won't even be our starter next year if he's here. AS far as kids who score a lot of points in HS, if my memory serves me correct didn't Dovinone Stewart fit that bill and we all know how that worked for us. I do agree some of the kids we've brought in averaging 7 to 9 ppg makes very little sense to me and it hasn't worked out very well either IMO.

My friend who has some contacts in Illinois recruiting did a little digging on Yarbrough.

He's a good shooter, but needs to work on rebounding, defense and ball handling.
He is kind of lanky but has already added some weight.

Bigger schools were on him last summer, but apparently low ACT scores scared them off. He has put in some work in the classroom and if this last semester goes well.. he could qualify.

Most of the bigger schools are gone.. DePaul and Marquette are still in the picture. Of course Marquette had a coaching change.. so I think that would be in our favor. His father is heavily involved and still hoping for a last minute offer from a big school. Tennessee may sneak into the picture. His older brother went there and the family has a relationship with the coach. But right now it does not look like Tenn. has an opening right now.

Personally Yarbrough sounds like he would be a good get for the Braves.. better than a random Juco!

I know all highlight videos make the players out to be studs, but this guy has the physical look of someone ready to contribute. I really would like to see him play here.

I think he's played more of a power forward-type role in high school so far, but has developed a little better perimeter game this year. Because he is a bit small to play the 4 in college, that may explain why he seems under-recruited. But I think he could play more of a 3 at the next level.
