BTW - there's another kid mentioned in that article...
a PF on Chicago n U-High named Max Rothschold who gets little statewide press but the kid definitely is worth a look..
He's a strong 6-8, scored 25 points/13 rebs, kept U-High within a few points right to the end, and has consistently put up big numbers (had 32 pts/16 reb in Regional title game) and carried his team despite having to do a lot of it himself.
We've probably already lost on the kid since he's now planning to go to prep school (he's Illinois Wolves) - like Gabe Levin did (who is at LMU where their coach was just fired so may be on the market but we could have had for the asking) - but I think he'll be a strong PF in college
BU recruit Luwane Pipkins, who many were thinking may be a high major recruit before it's all over, ended his recruiting and committed to UMass tonight.
A lot of people are, especially by committing to an Atlantic 10 team, and not a higher level. UMass has not finished higher than the 6th seeded team in the A-10 under Derrick Kellogg. Illinois Coach John Groce had personally scouted him. From what I hear from Illinois insiders, they wanted to continue following him and considered him a backup option for point guard. DePaul coach Oliver Purnell really liked him and had offered him, but Pipkins probably didn't expect Purnell to still be the coach when he got there.
Pipkins cannot sign now - and cannot sign until this coming November - and word has it that he has never visited UMass.
Some think there's a good probability he may yet change his mind....and since he's a Mac Irvin guy we need to keep in touch...
Groce really needs to land Brunson...
