  • 2012 Recruit quiz

Bradley has had a pretty good walk-on player the last few years in Charonn Woods.

And I have heard Bradley coach Geno Ford has offered a preferred walk-on spot to a very good 2012 player from a small school who is an outstanding shooter and playmaker, and has scored over 2000 points in his high school career. He hasn't yet decided whether to take the offer from Bradley or take one of several other scholarship offers he is leaning toward at non-D1 schools.
Here is a tough quiz that I'll be impressed if anyone can guess. Can anyone figure out who this is?

    Eric Leonard-Sangamon Valley
    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Eric's high school stats...(he is from Illiopolis)
        over 2100 points, 736 assists, 570 rebounds, 304 steals, 44% FG, 68% FT

and he also finished 2nd in the state last spring in the 400m with an excellent time - he's an outstanding track athlete as well...
I had the chance to talk with him and his dad at a track meet today and they are weighing options -
(they saw me wearing my Bradley gear and struck up a conversation...)
he still may want to run track in college but is considering walking on at D-I (in basketball) vs. a scholarship at D-II and other options...
He is a great athlete and he won in the 400m - 40 schools at the Jacksonville High School Indoor Invitational
BTW -- a certain Peoria kid also won the premier event...

Eric Leonard had quite a senior year -- he got high level offers in track & basketball - even some walk on D-I offers in basketball and he got a few D-I offers in track...

Eric WON the IHSA State Title in the 800 meter and single-handedly carried his school to a 3rd place finish in the 4x800, a 7th place in the 4x400, and to a Top-12 spot in the IHSA Track TEAM standings.

Eric was also 1st Team All Area in Springfield - LINK, and was also one of the better players in the IBCA All Star game...not to mention he was also all-conf. in FB and is a 4.0/Straight-A student...but he wanted to play basketball in college and seriously considered walking on at BU but in the end.....but when Mason Alwan chose to walk on at BU he dropped that idea.

Eric Leonard just accepted the offer to play basketball for Elmhurst
