If he graduates and has a banner year he'll be leaving regardless. Now days you can make a nice living playing in Europe.

Nacho -- there are only two such examples that I know of in college sports and only one in men's college basketball...and I have tried hard to find any others -- they just don't exist. You are welcome to add to this short list - but in every other case of the 6th year being given (like Sam Singh) it was for TWO separate years lost to injury and none to transfer or ineligibility

One is this woman at DePaul -- who got a 6th year even though one of her years was sitting out due to transfer

If BU has more success on the court in 2011-12 than generally anticipated, I assumed it would be because of GF's ability to get more out of the BU players/program. This would send a good message to higher caliber recruits GF has offered, or will offer in the future. This was the basis of my prediction GF will have more luck with getting these higher profile recruits to commit and actually show up to play for BU!

          But what do I know?

Not sure what you guys are talking about, but Taylor Brown played both his freshman and sophomore years and redshirted his junior year. He will be an academic senior this upcoming season and will still have an option for a fifth year. Took me 5 seconds to look it up and double check.

TB sat out his first year after HS.. so he is at the end of his 5 years.

wow...I stand corrected. I did not know that he was at a JUCO before Bradley. I'm in the same graduating class as him and was just under the impression he was a freshman.

He started at Bevill state his first year out of high school but left school before the basketball season began.
According to NCAA rules, his 5-year clock began ticking in the fall of 2007, even thought he never played his first game at BU until fall of 2008.
His clock would expire in fall of 2012 unless he gets a 6th year -- and I have a reasonable sense that NCAA has never done it before - giving a 6th year to a kid who VOLUNTARILY sat out one of his 5 years, even tho missing one to injury/illness.

There was some talk that maybe he left school in 2007 due to injury but he'd have to give that evidence to NCAA..and I don't know if he has.

Except that he went to a JC before coming to Bradley, got hurt and redshirted so that means a 6th year waiver is required for him to play past this coming year. I am more hopeful than some that this might be granted but I have no data to support it. Just a feeling.

Hard to predict what the NCAA will do in any case, but giving TB a sixth year (if he requests one) would seem to make a lot of sense from a policy standpoint. I would think they would want to encourage athletes and schools to play it safe, as TB and Bradley did, in this type of a situation.

but CABU -- the NCAA has a set of rules and on occasion they do try to follow them..
what point in the rules about getting a 6th year would TB claim applies to him...?
