      new Peyton Allen interview
2014 Michigan target Peyton Allen shot the ball extremely well at the Nike Spring Showdown in Merrillville, Ind. last weekend. Allen added an Iowa offer with his impressive performance over coaches and demonstrated his lightning quick shooting stroke and seemingly unlimited range. A reminder that scouting videos are not highlight videos – these clips include every […]

Peyton Allen just received an offer from Iowa...insiders are very optimistic. Clips from the Premium Rivals article pasted below:

Coach Fran McCaffery and his staff have had their eyes on Peyton Allen for quite a while. The Hawkeyes have hosted him twice in Iowa City on visits. This past weekend after getting out on the road to evaluate the talented shooting guard in the Class of 2014, they extended a scholarship offer.

"Iowa offered him this past weekend after seeing him at an AAU event in Indiana," said SW Jets AAU coach Dana Morgan. "He was very excited and happy to get the offer from Iowa. He said he's been there a couple of times with his parents and really liked the campus and the coaches."

With the Iowa offer, Allen now holds scholarship opportunities from the Hawkeyes, along with Oklahoma State and Bradley. According to Morgan, several high major schools are now picking up their level of interest in the dynamic guard prospect.

"He's hearing from a lot of schools now," Morgan said."Illinois new coaching staff is showing interest, along with Michigan, Xavier, Ohio State, Nebraska, DePaul, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State."

This is the first year that the 6-foot-4 guard is playing with the SW Jets program and Morgan says his game goes beyond shooting the basketball.

"First and foremost, he's a knockdown shooter. He's great a coming off screens and reading a defense. But, he's more than just a shooter. He can get to the basket and finish and is very good at getting his teammates involved by passing the basketball. Peyton has a very high basketball IQ."

I am certain it's every kid's dream to be good, get noticed by the big schools, and get recruited by the top coaches...so good for Peyton Allen - hope he has a great career...
BUT I also hope he still keeps the mid-majors in mind as a good option as we have always seen - that kids like Jarrod Uthoff, Devan Bawinkel, and others aimed too high......

I haven't seen a ton of him, but I have to ask if Allen is really so good that he'll get on the court at Iowa? He has fluid ball skills and can shoot, but I don't see it in terms of being a starter at that level. Mid-major makes a lot more sense to me. What am I missing?

I haven't seen him, but from those who have, I hear he is more athletic than he appears at first to be. He is possibly as good a shooter as there is in the country in his class, and he is good size for a BCS shooting guard. He is very good at creating his shots as well as catch and shoot, and he has a quick release. Shooters like Peyton always get a lot of recruiting attention. I wish the BCS interest wasn't happening, because he'd be a superstar at a midmajor like Bradley. But I am sure he'll end up at a much higher level.

Allen will probably be one of the top 3-5 kids in Illinois for his class and a Top 100 nationally. It would be quite a feather in the cap of Geno Ford if he can land a player of Allen's caliber.

Peyton Allen - who WAS a top recruiting priority for Bruce Weber at Illinois - is apparently NOT much of a priority for new Illini coach John Groce..
thus Peyton Allen has pretty much dropped Illinois from his list...
Allen still mentions his Bradley offer.

this article also notes Illinois has dropped off and isn't recruiting AJ Riley!

Peyton Allen played out east in Philly this weekend along with his AAU teammate Darreon Reddick and it was a smart move - a whole new bunch of teams/coaches saw him and were in touch...
Mississippi State, Auburn..........."Iowa, Michigan, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, and SMU.”

A pair of Michigan commitments and one 2014 offeree were in action during the opening night of the Adidas Invitational on Wednesday in Indianapolis, Indiana. 2013 commitments Zak Irvin and Mark Donnal performed well in front of Michigan coach John Beilein and assistant coaches LaVall Jordan and Jeff Meyer despite suffering opening night losses. Peyton had a monster game with 29 points and people notice...Reddick 19 pts
