Former BU recruit A.J. Riley, who has had a long course trying to get to Division I, and who is now in his 2nd year at John Logan CC near Carbondale, has received a scholarship offer from Eastern Illinois.

I have heard he looks very good in the preseason & in open gyms - still working on improving his jump shot & scoring but he's got his 1st DI offer

two of AJ Riley's teammates at John A. Logan are worth keeping an eye on..
Martavian Payne shot 42.3% from 3-pt last year and is off to a good start with 8-11 in his first two games this year
Lamont Walker - a freshman there that Bradley recruited out of high school, just went for 16 pts/5 rebs

Do we know if his enrollment in JC was due to opting out of his NLI or grades? If it was due to opting out of the NLI, would he be able to enroll next year and have three years of eligibility left.

A.J. Riley is now in his 2nd year at John Logan CC (he played in 30 games for them last year), so even if he had been a qualifier out of high school, he used up 2 years of eligibility at the juco level, and would have just 2 years of eligiblity left at a 4-year school.

However, I have heard from a reliable source that he did not qualify out of HS, thus he needs to spend the 2 years at juco, and get his associates degree.

Sorry, I meant to refer to Walker and forgot to say that.

                        OK, now that makes sense!
I heard Walker was not going to qualify anyway.
I also heard he was granted his release from his NLI commitment to UMKC, so he could have gone D1 if he was eligible, but I do not think that was the case.

I guess we'll see if he stays there 2 years.

Riley & his teammates (Russell Woods, Martavian Payne..) are putting up some pretty good offensive numbers..

A.J. Riley is a former Manual HS star and one-time Bradley recruit. It is great to see him finally getting a chance at the Division I level as a junior at Eastern Illinois.
Tonight EIU played an exhibition game against University of St. Francis (Joliet, Illinois), and Riley came off the bench to score 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in a 74-71 win over University of St. Francis.

Senior Luke Norman played a role in Eastern Illinois final seven points on Tuesday night as the Panthers beat a hot shooting Saint Francis (Ill.) team, 74-71, in exhibition play at Lantz Arena.   Norman scored the final five points for EIU knocking down a 3-pointer with 1:02 to play that broke a 69-69 tie. Norman helped EIU go up 69-67 with an assist to A.J. Riley.  The guard then knocked down a pair of free throws in the final five seconds to seal the win.  Norman finished with five points and two assists.

Really poor choice of behavior by Manual's AJ Riley....
Junior A.J. Riley has been suspended indefinitely by the Eastern men’s basketball team after he was arrested Wednesday. The Charleston Police Department arrested Riley on an in-state warrant. He was charged with the unlawful delivery of cannabis and was released to the custody of the Coles County Sheriff’s Office pending 10 percent of a $7,500...
