Daniel West is a teammate of another kid Bradley had been recruiting, Josh Southern. He is in the class of 2008, so he will just be starting his junior year in high school.

Here is a comment about him from the adidas Jamboree:

"6???‚¬?„?3 guard Daniel West '08???‚¬???Mustangs 16u (Saginaw)- West was a do it all
player for the Mustangs over the weekend, he rebounded well and pushed
the ball up the court either by pass or dribble. He was super-effective in
Coach Watts full-court trap causing turnover after turnover that resulted into
transition buckets for teammates. He shot well from the outside and can
improve on his decent ball-handling skills."

This is great considering he is two years out. Lets hope he keeps his word as his stock goes up!!! Now lets get a JC big man for next year!!!!!

Seems like a really nice addition. Sounds like he can be like Jeremy Fears, but maybe more a point gaurd skill set, and you have got to love what they say about his defense.

I agree. If BU is offering this early, that usually means they're wanting to get in on this kid before the big dogs come a calling. Now, we need to make sure that the Kelvin Sanctions of the world don't come corrupting this kid. If JL is offering this early, that means they've seen something special that they like. Seems like a Tony Bennett-type, but with much higher upside.

This also puts the pressure on guys like Freund and Roth to make a decision on BU. According to my math, we're losing Ruffin, Crouch, and Salley after next season. That means 2 other scholarships are open for 2008, and likely only 1 guard spot. Nick or Matt...we're waiting...

Danny West is a big time prospect.
He is a relatively unknown kid outside of Michigan, but everyone up here knows about him. In another 6 months he would have been getting attention from Big Ten, and other majors. He is young and still likely to grow. I am surprised he committed early. This is a major "get" for Jim Les.

Don't forget, Xavier Crawford will be getting one of those 2008 scholarships.

How strong is his word? Should BU be worried about him de-committing before November of next year?

Is that guaranteed? How strong is is committment to returning to BU? What are the chances of him even qualifying to play at the Division I level? Either way, the pressure is now on Roth or Freundt to take that last scholarship for 2008.

Obviously, nothing is guaranteed. But XC very much wants to return to BU and is planning on it. I am sure BU will hold a scholarship for him unless something changes.

I hope it works out if that is indeed true. I hope he's worth the wait.

Is there a requisite 2 year waiting period for all recruits from Richfield?

I have been around Bradley for a very long time, and I can't remember us ever getting a recruit verbally commit who is more than 2 years away from playing his first time with Bradley.
Daniel West will not be able to sign a LOI until November of 2007, and will play for Jim Les in Nov. 2008. Usually only the bigs get these kinds of very early committments when a kid knows he won't do any better. I have to say, I am impressed the coaches are getting it done this far in advance.
