  • 2012 recruit Jerron Wilbut

I have heard both the Braves and Salukis are interested in this kid.
    I found this on ChicagoHoops:
Class of 2012 Downers Grove South star Jerron Wilbut of the Illinois Wolves has now picked up a Western Athletic Conference scholarship offer from the University of Nevada. Wilbut rates as one of the top 2011 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.

Wilbut, a 6'2" guard, burst onto the scene last year during the high school season, and took his place among the top prospects in his class. At Downers Grove South, Wilbut teams with Jamal Millison to form one of the top 2012 duo's in the state of Illinois, and in June led his team to the title game of the Riverside-Brookfield Shootout.

Wilbut, and his 16-U Illinois Wolves teammates will compete during the July Evaluation Period at the Heartland Shootout, the Division One Elite Boys Invitational, the Best of the Midwest, the Hoop City Classic, the Desert Duel ahead of closing out the month at the ChicagoHoops.com End of Season Showdown.

Mike Mullins of the Illinois Wolves confirmed the scholarship offer from Nevada.

    I found this on espngo.com
    It was posted July 24:

Jerron Wilbut, Downers Grove South, Illinois Wolves, 2012: Wilbut, a 6-2 guard, impressed a number of people with his overall play earlier this month. Wilbut has been hearing from a number of in-state schools, including Bradley, DePaul, Illinois and Southern Illinois.

"He has played himself into a few high-major offers," said local recruiting analyst Larry Butler of Illinois Spot-Lite. "I was impressed with his ability to see the floor. He can score with ease. He's a big-time passer. He can play both guard slots."

Sounds good, although 6-2 guards are not high on my list right now. If we are going to go after one, he sounds like a high quality recruit.

6-2 guards that can play point guard and shoot would be a nice get.

I had a chance to see Wilbut play against Johnny Hill at the Aurora East Sectional Semifinal in March. He's a good ball player who can do a little bit of everything; good shooter, good passer, good hops (dunked on Hill). I'm planning on going up to Riverside-Brookfield on Sunday. I'll keep a close eye on him and try to give a better assessment.

Here's an article from the game I saw him in: http://basketball.dailyherald.com/story/?id=427648

In the comments to Henricksen's blog about the tournament this weekend:
Hey Joe, just an fyi. I believe Jerron of DG is transferring and won't be there for this season.

No Wilbut this weekend for DGS. I hear he is looking to go the prep school route. Sounds like grades or 'the test' could be the reason for the move.

I see Jerron Wilbut is still playing for DGS and is putting up some good numbers. He is also ranked high in both the ESPN and Rivals rankings. Is he for certain going the prep-school route? He seems like he would be a quality addition with our lack of depth at guard and shooting deficiencies.

I thought the Illinois Wolves had soured on BU... Not saying it's not worth recruiting them and such, just that it might be a bit of an uphill battle...

I don't know if the Braves are still in the mix.
I heard Mizzou was now following Wilbut.

I think Bradley is still recruiting Wilbut, but there are now several BCS schools involved.
Maryland was just in to watch and evaluate him.

Former BU recruit Jerron Wilbut apparently won't qualify to go to D1. He is enrolling at Gulf Coast College in Florida
