So the great Bradley fans can take a little credit for Donivine picking Bradley!
I was thinking the same thing as I read that....

all those nights I cheered for the Braves...
and now Donivine says flatly that was a major reason he chose Bradley!
So, yes, the good fans that pack the arena can take some credit...
and did anyone notice this one more line....

"..Coach promised me he’d be there for four years and I promised him I’d give 100 percent for four years."

...looks like the Bradley fans have two great pieces of news to celebrate!

      • Welcome to the Hilltop Donivine. Sounds like the kind of recruit BU can be proud of. Good Player/Good Person.

Unfortunately neither Jim Les cannot truly control that situation...unless of course he starts winning some more basketball games.

Unless Les was told something by the "higher ups" that he then passed on to Donivan.

Even if he was, that means little. Heck, we see it every day - Votes of confidence can almost be the death knell for a coach. Jim Molinari was told by Broski that his job was safe, and that he could play all the freshmen all year because it was a young and talented group that needed to develop. Mo was then promptly whacked after going 9-20, just one year after finishing 2nd in the league with a senior-laden bunch.

But, what we do know is this - His contract says he'll be here, and he's still the head guy, so there's no reason to say anything else to a recruit. Donivine is coming to BU, and that's a good thing.

              • I doubt anyone KNOWS what's going to happen in 4 years...but at least it solidifies the argument that Coach Les' job is NOT in jeopardy
which will cause anguish to some I am sure...

My personal reason for bringing up EM was to show we have plenty of players to cover next year. We don't need another guard. After that we still would have DSE and DS. Could maybe use one more, but not in this years class. If Tyler ended up walking on we may not need another even the next year. I just think our biggest need is inside.

Coaches promise kids anything these days.

If you ever spot anguish. . .be sure to point that out.

Stevie Wonder knows we need help inside....

Also to the other discussion, a Coach can and will tell a recruit anything and everything to get him to commit to a school...

You think if Les told Milos he was going to ride the pine all year he'd even be here?

Whether Les is here in 4 years or not is really beside the point, it matters MUCH more than Donivine is still here in 4 years!

                          • Wouldn't it be awesome to finally have the talent live up to their expectations? I have really like Les's recruits (skill-wise and personality-wise) so I'd like him to stay on the hilltop provided he gets more out of his talent.
I think he got the most from his players in '06-'07 (NIT) and '08-'09 (though the '05-'06 team came on strong and had much talent). Expect the same in '10-'11!
No excuses this coming season of not finishing in the Top 3 (no matter who is being recruited for next season). A quality big man would alleviate that pressure a little though!

                            • not so sure now

Not sure of NCAA rules but I was at dinner last night with a Limestone basketball coach and he informed me that a West Virginia assistant coach was at Donovans signing. The Limestone AD asked him why he was there and he stated he was invited? No Bradley coaches were there evidently and i called a Limestone admin today to verify this and he stated the coach stayed in the back and never came foward til the end of the signing. This has to be a NCAA violation I am thinking. This has me very concerned as a Bradley fan.

                              • It is unheard of, and I believe it would be a violation for any college coach to be present at a kid's signing, especially if it is listed as a "dead period" by the NCAA.
November 8-11 was an NCAA mandated "dead period"-

Donivine signed on the first day of the signing period- Nov 10., according to this Bradley release-
PEORIA, Ill. ? The 2011-12 Bradley men's basketball team will welcome three freshman as the Braves today received signed National Letters of Intent from Remy Abell, Donivine Stewart and Nate Wells.

so that would have been during the dead period when any "in person" contact was a violation.
                                Definition of "dead period"- http://basketball.about.com/od/colle...deadperiod.htm

So I do not know how it could have happened, but I wouldn't put it past some coaches who really want a kid (ala Jerry Wainwright visiting Manual Cass during a similar "dead period" to deliver the LOI).

However, I am not worried about Donivine. He is solidly committed to Bradley. And he is now signed.
