I like his size. Not sure about his skill level, but the other schools looking at him indicate that he would probably do well at the MVC level.

He went from 6'8, 220 to 6'10, 265 in less than 2 years, and improved his skill level?! Sign him up!

His bio actually says 6'10, 256.....but it's still a big increase in one year's time!

I'm all about late bloomers...we've done well with late blooming bigs (see the #9 pick in the NBA Draft). After further review, I think I want this kid. He sounds like another immediate-impact guy who could step right in and start in the pivot.

That is correct, we have 2 scholarships left. In my perfect world we fill them both this fall with bigs. I like this kid and the Thompson kid from Houston. One is an immediate impact guy (Pegues) and the other is a kid who could blossom into a star (Thompson). Land those 2 kids, and you've got potentially the most highly regarded class BU has ever seen.

With the only potential exception being the '46-47 tryouts, which featured two All-Americans, Ray Ramsey, Harry Wilcoxen (who would officiate a national championship game) and future coach Joe Stowell. Everyone else present offered a "who's who" of IHSA's state tournament from the 1940's. It was also a mix of young and old as many war veterans returned with eligibility remaining.

I think because Fears is already on campus, he's technically shown as an 06-07 recruit, along with Andrew Warren.....but I agree with your assessment that potentially, it still could be the best recruiting class in recent memory.

                      Sam Maniscalco
                      DeAndre Williams
                      Will Egolf
                      Monquel Pegues
                      Anthony Thompson

Let's keep our fingers crossed that good news will happen!

True, I guess I just count Fears in next year's class since we won't see him in a BU uniform until then. Even without him, it's a fantastic class that should have us winning Valley championships again (IF we land these quality bigs we're looking hard at).

JuCoJunction has a new premium article on Cape Fear Community College, and a mention of Monquel Pegues. Bradley had been recruiting him, but I am not aware if they still are involved. Here is what the article says about Pegues--

Monquel Pegues: (SO) 6-foot-10 (250) from Wilson, NC. Pegues had signed with High Point out of high school but enrolled at Cape Fear CC after not making grades.
"Monquel has dropped about 15 lbs this season and he's still developing," said Mantlo.
Pegues practically owns all the school records at Cape Fear CC in scoring, rebounds, blocked shots, and field goals made. Pegues has scored 852 career points in 62 games. Monquel is averaging 18.3 ppg and 6.8 rebounds this season for the Sea Devils while shooting 56% (190-339) from the floor.
Monquel must take care of some work in the classroom to graduate on time to move on to the D1 level.
UTEP-offered, George Mason-offered, South Carolina State-offered and he visited in the
fall, Bradley, Rutgers and Houston have shown interest in the center.

Monquel, once a BU recruit, signed yesterday
with New Mexico and will play for Steve alford.
Funny how a guy that's 6-10, averaging 18/8 got so very few offers.
In the end, New Mexico was his only offer, and Alford, who's rebuilding,
has a bunch of open rides to fill so he took a chance.

I thought he sounded and looked like a quality player. It will be interesting to see how he does. I wouldn't have minded seeing him in a BU uniform, but I am more than satisfied with what we have.
