    Update

I was thinking about how David Collins year went and I decided to check how this guys season at New Mexico turned out. Looks even worse than Collins. A 6-10 player yet he only shot 24.7 %. Not much help on the boards either.

Looks like most of the points he scored were early in the season against very poor competetion, too. New Mexico will make the NCAA this year, but not because of anything Pegues contributed. He had 18 field goals in 31 games, and 28 turnovers to 3 assists. He wouldn't have been the answer for BU.

you are more optimistic than even some New Mexico fans...

New Mexico has an RPI of 52 but a SOS of 149!
They are 24-7, and 3rd best team in the MWC...a conference that's well behind the MVC in strength.
The top 2 teams in the MWC (BYU and UNLV) are almost certainly going to the NCAA since they have RPI's of 21, and 28.

But I am not so sure about New Mexico.
Having NCAA and media darling Steve Alford will give them a boost, but if they lose in the first round of their conference tourney, they'll be asking for an at large bid with an RPI in the 60's, and only one win against a top-50 team, a home win vs. UNLV.
21 of their wins come against 100+ RPI teams and a whopping 16 of them against 150+ teams!
Their record against teams with RPI's better than 150 is only 7-6 and vs. Top 100 teams it's 3-5.
They are on the bubble at best.
