I have seen Hoerdemann play and since he is still just going to be a junior, the strong interest by even some big schools is because he could still grow taller and develop.
However, at this point, I would still have to say he is a lot like Dyricus Simms-Edwards....kind of a tweener...
not a good enough ball handler to really be a top D-I PG, and at 6-2, simply not a BCS-type SG.
I think it's 50-50 he will still end up as a mid-major player but he also might end up at Iowa as that's the type of player they've been going after lately.
...and a few Valley schools are on to him...but I have never yet heard that he has any interest in BU.

BTW-- I have a question........
Who was the last Bloomington (or Bloomington area)player to play and have a nice career at ISU?
I don't mean guys like Brandon Holtz...a great kid but never more than a deep bench player...I mean someone who was either a starter or key sub who made a difference on the court?
I really don't know the answer -- maybe one of the ISU fans can supply the answer...
but isn't it odd, that it has certainly been a long, long time....

By contrast BU will have one Bloomington player as well as a couple Peoria area players (Dyricus & JP), plus BU has had others (JC, Ruff, Cellus, Danny Adams..) in recent years too.

a new interview of Hayden Hoerdemann...
He names ISU as recruiting him, almost as an afterthought...these are his own words...
"I've got about 25 schools that have been showing me interest and 15 that
have been calling me..

The main ones are probably Harvard, Princeton, Butler, Wichita State,
Northwestern, Xavier and most of the Missouri Valley has been contacting me."

Loyola, William & Mary, Iowa State and Western Michigan have also shown
Hoerdemann interest Iowa and Illinois send the BCC junior a letter every day,
he said. He also talks to Illinois State and Eastern Illinois

"I was going to go to (the ISU) Hoop Fest on Friday but our football team
played (so Hoerdemann went to his HS's FB game instead)

I saw HH play again last night. I've seen him play 8-10 times over the course of his hs career. I think he is a nice A/AA hs player, but I have in no way ever seen anything from him to justify some of the rankings that are posted here from time to time.

At the beginning of the 4th qtr he had 4 points and playing from behind he finished with 10. That being said I'm not sure I would have felt differently had he scored 20, as most of these points were on drives and putbacks. He is very simply a 6-1 way below the rim 2 guard. I just don't see it. I am not knocking the kid, it is more an indictment of the hype and rankings of summer basketball. It amazes me what kind of attention a kid can garner by simply playing a lot at a young age and going through the paces.

These kinds of things were said about Sam Maniscalco, Johnny Moran, Blake Ahearn, and even Kyle Korver, and others. I think HH will be a very good D1 player.

I think he is a little taller than Washington's Sean Johnson, who ended up at Illinois Wesleyan, but is now one of their top players and leading scorers consistently...
so I think Sean Johnson could conceivably have been successful at D-I, and I think the same about HH

SM was slugging it out with Demitri McCamey and matching his production at the HS level. Kyle Korver was 6-5 and the others I would believe were considered dead eye shooters.

The issue I have as I watch HH is that he doesn't fall into any of these categories along with the bigger issue of size and athleticism because he doesn't play the point.

HH was just one of 10 kids on the floor. He was wearing a different number than in the past and it actually took me a few minutes to pick him out from the rest.

I am willing to admit that I could be way off as I often wonder how the Morans and Farokmanesh's of the basketball world get to that level. I don't wish to be right or hope the kid fails. I'm just making an observation.

Korver and Ahearn didn't have any other D1 offers, according to recruiting sites, so many felt they were not D1 players.
Sam had other D1 interest, but was called too slow and not a good enough shooter by many.

All I'm saying is that you can't judge by seeing him one time. He is now listed at 6'3", and has been followed by Big Ten coaches for the last 2 years. He has been invited and made visits to Iowa, Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and others. I personally don't think he'll be a Big Ten player, but that suggests that a lot of coaches who know a lot about basketball think he has potential.

Illinois State has already offered, and we know Tim Jankovich knows how to evaluate kids.

I watched DSE at Washington and wondered why BU was so interested. I was wrong, very wrong.

Again, this is just how I see it. I haven't seen him play once. I've seen him many times. He will score 20 points or better, many good players do this in hs. I have NEVER seen him dominate at either end of the floor

There are all kinds of examples of players who do great after flying under the radar.

Obviously with the level of interest that is mentioned above, that is where I am baffled. It's not that a kid with modest physical talent can't find his way onto a div 1 team and do well.

The issue is: how can this particular kid draw this kind of interest with very borderline physical qualities playing at the A/AA level?

Lastly, I am likely the one who is wrong, I will admit. I have however seen a lot of basketball over the last 25 years or so and have never seen a kid like this have this much interest from the kind of schools DC is listing.

I will tell you right now Hayden Hoerdemann is a D1 caliber player. High School is hard to judge where a kids level is at. This year at bloomington central catholic he is asked to do a little bit of everything. He has to handle the ball and score. Plus, every team he plays against #1 defensive assignment is to stop him.

Hayden is alot better as a SG then he is a ball handler however he still is good player as a ball handler. He is a player that plays better when he has better players around him (just like most players). He is a gamer, hard worker, and has a great understanding of the game.

He did have 39pts against Fieldcrest in the Championship of the State Farm Holiday Tournament. And I believe he is averaging around 17-20pts per game. Not bad for a JUNIOR....

He will make someone very happy at the next level....

I agree, I have seen him play a couple times and I think he's a DI player..
doesn't shoot as well as Matt Roth but does a whole lot more, athletic, creates shots, rebounds, and handles the ball, and tough/plays some defense.
Wouldn't you agree midstate?
