Of course the country has been changing Presidents every 8 years lately, so JM probably wouldn't have won anyway. One thing I find funny out of all this is that the Hollywood left is praising the fact that this election shows that democracy works in this country. But boy are they raising cain because the voters voted down gay marriages. Does democracy work or not, can't have it both ways.
McCain tried as best as he could to keep tact in this race. But keeping the whole Ayers..which is a silly thing to begin with or the Wright thing... which is not as silly, off the board a bit, were McCain's decisions, but I am guessing those were decisions based on some of his relationships that could have used some further explaination and focus.

The California thing to me is a little ironic, yes the Hollywood left is pleased with Obama, but and this is from the Gay rights advicates, that the infulex of new voters... mostly African American really affected the voting against gay marriage. My thinking though is that most new voters went with a straight ticket vote, which would not include the gay marriage vote. And the voters who were more experienced went into the vote and voted either way and the will of the "experienced voters of California" spoke on that issue.

Democracy works because everyones vote counts for exactly one vote and that one vote can be in one instance with one opinion and the next decison can be with a completely separate opinion. But mostly, in my opinion, it comes down to laziness... straight party voting. That type of voting can have a huge effect on non party related votes.

I guarantee that the backers of the gay marriage in California were convinced that there was no way that vote would go against, especially with the many Democrat voters, I think they misinterpreted why those people were voting or that they even gave a thought to that part of the ballot.

I hesitated getting into politics here, but find this very civil....

Just my humble opinion, but McCain gets blown out of the water without Palin. Like I said before, I think some folks mishandled her and McCain.

Agree that Jindal is a leading candidate.....Newt is a lurker from what I hear..

I am probably wrong, but I think that Newt will probably be named the new Chairman of the Republican Party.

Curious, do you think that if he chooses, Romney, Guliani someone such as those two he still gets blown out of the water? Those two would have brought stablity, less surprises and much more of a "team".

Just my opinion but I think Palin and her surprises really distructed McCains campaign.

I am thinking Palin created a huge following that energized folks to get out and vote.

I felt that Romney would have been the best choice from the people that I knew. I had never heard of Palin, until her appointment to the ticket.

I just don't think it would have made much difference. McCain was buried by the economic callapse.

I doubt if any of McCain's friends blew up police stations, etc and said they weren't sorry, or said God****America. But you're right he might have had a few shady friends, as we all do at one time or another. As for the Hollywood group, I still say they can't have it both ways. In real America, not 'R' rated land evidently, voters decide who wins and loses and that's why it's a Democracy. In closing, I think we all have to hope Obama does the job and everybody works together, not like the last 8 years. Gotta go, Hannitys on.

Ok this is sliding the wrong way when you start bring Hannity into a discussion.

I am honestly not even sure what you mean when you refer to a Real America? I was under the impression America was pretty much any state that was in the 50 United States but I guess somewhere there is a "Real America and their vote decide who wins and loses. How wrong I am to believe "everyones" votes counted equal.

Do you mean Hollywood cant have what both ways, a democratic president and what you believe is purely liberal/democratic issue? It is very assumpative of you to believe that gay marriage is strictly a liberal/democratic issue. I thought it was a people issue and news flash not every California gay person is also a liberal democrat. But I would imagine in the Real America that is what all beleive.

And Ill leave you with this when it comes to relationships...

                    G Gordon Libby
                    Charles Keating

What makes those relationships much more acceptable then the ones you have tried to focus on? Oh wait maybe those two are part of Real America and Ayers and Wright could never be, so one relationship is wrong while the other is ok... well because Real America says so??????

Worst thing you can do now days is tell it like it is. My point about Hollywood, which I thought would be easy to understand, is that they call it democracy when who they want elected is elected, but raise hell when the same voters don't vote for what they want. Thats it's for me on this subect, the elections are over and it's time for Bradley Basketball. You talk politics, I'll talk sports on this sports board.

Don't go to the MVC Tournament anymore. I'm in warm weather starting mid December. Mesa is a long way from St. Louis. Might be worth it though if you're buying. We wouldn't discuss politics though, because you ain't changing my mind and it's too bad I can't change yours. GO BRAVES

You can always change! My mother a life long Republican told me she would have voted for Hilary for president. So to me right now anything is possible. My household had some interesting discussion with my dad as a Truman Democrat. I have learned to listen to both sides of an issue and decide from there. To me politics is a a sport and I'd always welcome anyones organized and intelligent response to a subject even if we do disagree. On another note if we all go to St Louis I'd rather start the conversation on how our Braves will do.
