  • BU baseball- Brian Shouse

Nice article about Brian Shouse, with an interview--
Brian Shouse is surrounded by all-stars, future MVP and Cy Young Award candidates (and winners) and highly-touted prospects. His road was much different.

Kirk Wessler also had a column about Brian Shouse a few days ago--

And Dave Reynolds reported about new coach Elvis Dominguez--

And an article from the suburban Chicago Daily Herald about Bradley baseball recruiting in the Chicago area--
Thank you so much for Eric Peterson’s story, “Left without a home.” The story broke my heart and gave me continued empathy for those who just need a little extra “hand up” and not a “hand...

Ken Kavanagh just alerted me to this nice article on Brian Shouse,
who almost was able to get into the playoffs this season had it not been for the near Cub-like collapse of the Brewers.

Talked to Brian last Saturday.....I was hoping that the Cardinals would sign him...Birds need a dependable lefty and he would be a nice fit for them.....

I have said this before, although maybe not here...he is a class guy, a great dad, and a pleasure to talk to.....down to earth nice guy

Uh, yeah, except the Brewers actually made the playoffs.

And when they got there, they won one more game than the Cubs did.

Which playoff game did Brian Shouse get into?

I think he did not make a playoff appearance.

You seemed to be indicating with your post that the team didn't make the playoffs:

who almost was able to get into the playoffs this season had it not been for the near Cub-like collapse of the Brewers.
Now if you would have said he was almost able to get into a playoff game, that would be a different story.

That being said, there were four games in the series. Nine times out of ten he would probably see action sometime in a four-game stretch. That's just the way it goes. He was still a member of the playoff roster who was also an invaluable part of the team during the regular season. It just so happened that the opportunity to put him into a postseason game didn't arise.

By the way, since when is a 3-1 series loss without homefield advantage against the eventual WS champions a collapse? Being swept when you are overwhelming favorite (*cough*Cubs*cough*), yeah that is a collapse. When you called it a collapse, I assumed you were talking about the end of the regular season and "misremembered" that the Brewers did, in fact, make the playoffs.

I know Brian Shouse and talked with him Saturday at one of his daughters' school functions, and see him often since his middle daughter is on the same middle school cheerleading squad that my daughter is on.
I know his team made the playoffs, but they were out in a hurry and he never made an appearance.
Had they not collapsed (as the Cubs did) they might have played deeper into the playoffs and Brian might have had a chance to pitch.
Maybe he'd have had a better chance to have gotten in a game had things been different but the Brewers trailed most of the games, and the only one they led in, they apparently decided they didn't need his services.

I guess our definitions of collapse are a little different.

the Brewers' collapse started a few weeks before the end of the season and never really slowed down

They definitely collapsed for most of August, though they did recover enough in the final week to get into the postseason.

But how was losing in the first round, to the eventual WS champions, a collapse? I still don't understand the logic in that. I don't know of anyone who favored Milwaukee to win that series.

a few weeks before the season ended, it looked sure the Brewers were headed into the playoffs looking solid.
Then they went into a slide, and barely made the playoffs, but sure didn't look good in doing so.
They led in only one of the playoff games and exited before much of the nation even knew they were playing.
I think it is a big collapse, and I know some Brewer fans who agree.
White Sox did the same thing!

Whatever, we're just going around in circles now.

Yes, they collapsed in early September (I meant September in my previous post, not August), fired their manager, and then recovered from the collapse enough to make the playoffs. Once you are in the playoffs, I don't see how it's a collapse if you are eliminated unless you were the heavy favorite.
