After last year's 8% drop in home runs, this season, home runs in Major League baseball is down anther 10.4%. You have to go back to 1993 to find the last year with scoring and home runs at such a low pace. And this year MLB is on a pace that will see almost 1000 fewer home runs than just 2 seasons ago.--
There are a lot of interesting examples of the stark differences in home runs this year. Here are a couple--
Alex Rodriguez had 54 home runs and 156 RBI last year. This season, he has missed several games with injury, but he only has 6 home runs and 16 RBI in the Yankees' 51 games.
Victor Martinez of the Cleveland Indians had 25 home runs and 116 RBI last season. This year, he has been healthy, but has 0 home runs and 17 RBI, nearly 1/3 of the way into the season.
There is only 1 player in the American League who is on pace for 40 home runs this season. Carlos Quentin of the White Sox leads the AL with only 14 homers. In 2006 Albert Pujols had 14 home runs just in the month of April, and last year, Alex Rodriguez also had 14 homers by the end of April.
