  • Congrats to Jonathan Hauter

Morton native and Peoria Christian High School junior Jonathan Hauter shot the best round of golf at the IHSA Golf Finals yesterday in Bloomington, 4 under-par 68.

His 68 in the first round Friday gives him a 2 shot lead in the quest for the individual state title. (1A). The Brimfield team is presently in 8th in the team standings.

In Class 2A, Jordan Fahel of Peoria Notre Dame is 10th individually, and his PND Team is 3rd in the team standings.

The second and final round is today.

Now with only five foursomes left on the course, Jonathan Hauter still holds a 3-stroke lead.
Only one golfer has a reasonable chance of catching Jon, and that's Ben Gillen, from Monmouth-Roseville, who is 3 strokes back, playing in the same foursome with 3 holes left.
Everyone else is six or more shots back.

Jonathan Hauter wins by 5 strokes over Jake Schertz of Byron and by 7 over Ben Gillen of Monmouth Roseville, who bogeyed the final 2 holes.

          Congrats to Jonathan!!

Just to revive an older discussion, but I think MORE congrats are in line for Peoria high schooler Jon Hauter.

Jon competed in the Ron Ghidina Championship (formerly known as the Peoria City and Peoria Area Championship).
Almost every other participant was older, with the leading competitors being well beyond high school and even college.

Nonetheless, Jon, who just completed his junior year at Peoria Christian High School, competed quite well, and finished with a 153, good enough for 8th.
However, Jon had a superb 2nd round 73, the third best round that was shot on Sunday and the 4th best in the entire two day tourney!
