  • Cubs Hot Start

9-2 to start the season so far. Looking like they're headed toward a 2016 start if they keep this going (though I probably just jinxed them here).

Anyways, I really just wanted to post something since the sports world is so dead!

Yes, the Cubs have not hit the ball very well, but they have been winning. They rank 16th in team batting average (out of 30 MLB teams), but their 9-2 record going into tonight's game is tied for the best in the major leagues. The White Sox have also been hot. They are 7-4 going into tonight and have won a MLB-best 6 in a row And they lead MLB in team batting average. So far for Chicago fans, it's been fun.

The Cardinals have been hampered by positive Covid-19 tests, and have had their last 9 games postponed. They have only played 5 games, but they were just cleared to resume play tomorrow against the Cubs.

Good point. I don't think the Cubs have the pitching to take them anywhere, but I must say, the 9-2 start was entirely unexpected.

      I haven't watched a single game, though.

Don’t forget, they still have Cub uniforms on.

haha! Come on, Chico! Curse is dead since 2016! Their pitching is pretty suspect and their lineup after the 1-5 isn't that impressive, either, and they have benefited by playing some weak competition to start the year, so I do expect them to tank, but trying to enjoy the ride while it lasts!

It has been a really slow off-season, so far, with very little free agent signing activity for the Cubs, Cardinals, White Sox, and just about every other team. I suspect every team lost money last season with no fans and only a 60 game season, and they are now waiting out the FA market hoping to see if the asking prices drop.
Also, it's been reported that the owners want to move the start of spring training back a month, start the regular season in May, and shorten the season to 130 games. The players union has said they will not approve another shortened season, which would reduce the players' pay, and plan to report to spring training in February and play a 162 game season. Looks like more negotiating will be needed to reach some kind of settlement.
