  • BU baseball player named to All American team

Freshman baseball player, Brad Altbach, a pitcher was named first-team All-American by the Jewish Sports Review. Published in the July/August issue of the Jewish Sports Review, the 2007 College Baseball (D-1) All-America first team includes 18 student-athletes and Altbach was one of four relief pitchers on the squad.

He was also the Freshman of the Year in the MVC.

PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley's 2007 baseball season came to an end in May, but the awards continue to trickle in for freshman pitching star Brad Altbach (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North H.S.), who has been named a first-team All-American by the Jewish Sports Review.? Published in the July/August issue of the Jewish Sports Review, the 2007 College Baseball (D-1) All-America first team includes 18 student-athletes and Altbach was one of four relief pitchers on the squad.

    Congratulations to Brad.
But, I have a question about this Jewish All American designation--
How do the people at the Jewish Sports Review know which athletes are Jewish and which ones aren't?

And another obvious question-- Why isn't there a Lutheran All American team, or a Catholic All American team? It seems to me that naming an All American team based solely on a kid's heritage or religious beliefs reeks of ethnic and religious discrimination, doesn't it?
