  • Bradley women's golf coach leaves

Bradley women's golf coach Mary Swanson, who has been at Bradley for 8 seasons, has left and will become the head women's golf coach at Division III Washington University in St. Louis.
On the surface, this does not seem like a step up to go from Division I to Division III. No reason was given for her leaving.

In her 8 years, Bradley has had four 5th place finishes, one 4th place finish, and three 3rd place finishes in the MVC Championships.

    that is weird....

Bradley just sent out a Summer Update for Women's Golf and no mention of this - https://bradleybraves.com/news/2018/...er-update.aspx

and we're only a month or so away from the beginning of the fall exhibitions that the women's golf team does - and there's no schedule posted for them yet on the website

It might be a bit more difficult hiring a new head coach from another D1 school this late when most are already working on their 2018-19 seasons.
I wonder if Bo Ryan is a possibility to return? That would be interesting...
Ryan is the previous Bradley women's golf head coach who was surprisingly let go in 2010 by the previous AD despite great success at BU (I'll skip the details). His teams were always competitive, and were the most successful Bradley athletic program in the decade or so before he left in 2010. Ryan won 4 MVC Women's Golf Championships (1999, 2002, 2003, 2006) and were runner-ups two additional times (2001, 2007) and had 3 team NCAA appearances (2002, 2003, 2006). Those are the only Championships and the only NCAA appearances in Bradley Women's Golf history. And no other Bradley sports program during that time won as many MVC postseason titles as Bop Ryan did (4 MVC Championships '99, '02, '03, '06). Not even the highly successful men's soccer programs has won that many MVC Championships (Bradley soccer has won the MVC Championship 3 times ['07, '10, '13] in the 28 years that the MVC has had their post-season tournament)!
Ryan is currently the head coach at ICC.
