Is this the NFL's first female player?
First, I think the title of the article is silly, and is an injustice to the young woman it is about. Becca Longo is only 18, and has not played a single college game yet, let alone qualified for the NFL draft. She was recruited by Adams State University, a Division II school in Colorado, and may be the first female to sign a scholarship offer to play college football. Many who have seen her kick in high school believe she can be a successful kicker for the Adams State football team.
She is not the first female to play college football. As the article mentions, there have been about a dozen before her, nearly all were kickers.
I think the odds of a professional career may be a bit of a long shot, but we'll follow her career at Adams State.
