Peoria Central newcomer Geno Hess rushed 46 times for 445 yards according to PJS (but see below) on the ground and eight touchdowns in his very first game for the Lions..
and it definitely was NOT due to a weak opponent as they played Normal West, a far larger school.
Peoria Central scored 70 points to beat Normal West 70-63
btw- the Pantagraph's Jim Benson was there and independently had Hess for 574 yards, as did Jim Mattson....
and one other source had 579....so wonder what the real answer is...
70-63 is the 4th highest total score in IHSA FB history
and Hess' yardage is the 2nd highest rushing game in IHSA history
there were 58 points scored in the 4th quarter (also possibly a state record but not kept by IHSA)
you wonder why Geno Hess did not get more coverage...
The coverage he got in the Bloomington Pantagraph was more than in Peoria.
