A good year just keeps getting better for the BU baseball team as they beat #14 ranked and Big 10 conference leader Iowa 5-4 in Peoria on Tuesday. This is the first time that the Braves have beaten ranked teams in back to back games since April 2003. A 3 run homer in the 2nd inning by Issac Smith put BU up 3-0. Iowa came back with 1 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th to take a 4-3 lead. The Braves scored 2 in the bottom of the 7th after 2 were out to lead 5-4 and held on for the win. David Kroll was the winning pitcher and closer Matt Dennis went 1.2 innings for his 6th save. The Braves go to DeKalb to face Northern Illinois on Wednsday before coming home for a 3 game weekend series against nemesis Wichita State. Go get that first win against Wichita Elvis!

btw - ISU set their all time single game attendance record Tuesday when they hosted University of Illinois (30-6) - nearly doubling their former home record!
Unfortunately they lost 7-3, but nice that they got to host the Illini...
East Peoria's Joe Kelch went 3-5 for the Redbirds...
Kelch & Brimfield's Danny Dwyer are two of ISU's best players, both starters - both hitting over .300 and leading in many categories...
Too bad BU let them get away right out of our own back yard!

Wichita at Bradley - in the 4th inning, Bradley is down 5-1...
BU ace Elliot Ashbeck has pitched 3.1 innings and given up 5 runs, 8 hits, while BU has 3 hits
With a win BU could move to 3rd in the Valley but because of a logjam - with a loss they could drop down to 6-7th

good game at Dozer - pitchers duel until the 5th then the Shox score 2, followed by a 2-out rally that started with a Godinez walk and an Isaac Smith opposite field single - then the scoring got started by a Spencer Gaa hit...
and 2 batters later - Elliot Ashbeck slammed a deep double to right scoring Smith & Gaa.
Bradley still holds on to the 3-2 lead - now in the 8th with Bradley's Dennis working in relief and getting out of a 2-on, one-out jam.
In the bottom of the 8th Bradley has a little threat going - with 2 outs Tyler Leffler is on 2nd after a double.
