Big congratulations to the Illinois State football team that made it all the way to the FCS National Championship playoff final game today in Frisco, Texas. The faced another Missouri Valley Football Conference team, South Dakota State, which had won the last 3 FCS Championships.
It was a great game, but SDSU scored a touchdown with 37 seconds left to beat ISU.
ISU in the past 1 year has played for the FCS football national championship, they tied for the regular season MVC Football Conference championship with SDSU, they won the regular season volleyball championship, they won the MVC volleyball tournament championship, they won the regular season women's soccer championship, and they won the MVC women's soccer tournament championship. In addition, they have finished close to the top in several other sports, and ahead of Bradley is almost every sport in which both team participate. In basketball, they have finished ahead of Bradley each of the last 3 seasons, and Geno's teams are 1-5 against them.
In short, they have a successful athletic program, and there is simply no logical reason Bradley couldn't be just as successful. But IMO, under the current leadership, we never will be.
