See by this morning's PJS that 2 key members of Peoria Notre Dame's undefeated football team, Jake Hurst and Andy Shadid, have signed baseball LOI with Bradley. Sounds like 2 great all around athletes. Hope it's a start of a great baseball recruiting class.

it is not typical but it would be expected that he would want his own son at BU and his son of course must love the opportunity..
And who'd care if BU was strong in baseball or had a winning tradition...but given the current setting the move could be questioned....
I would love nothing more if the recruit proves me 100% wrong - but .200 hitters in high school rarely become .350 hitters in college...
and we have the parallel of all the 6-8 ppg scorers or kids who hadn't even played for a year or two that we have landed lately (Barnes, Blake, Fields, Taylor, Morgan, Swopshire, Zecevic, Shaw...) - you just cannot expect them to suddenly become 20 ppg scorers...duh...
...even worse - then we soften our standards to land a couple shooters who play zero defense and now we're giving up 50% from the arc!
it's all fine & dandy except using a scholarship should be reserved for the very top recruitable candidates who might strengthen the program and finally get BU out of perennial last place in MVC baseball....that's the standard that has been previously applied!
Just a few months ago we heard complaining about how baseball is the only sport that repeatedly loses their best players before they graduate (because they might get drafted) - so if we have an open scholarship it should go to someone who at least appears somewhere in the statewide rankings that rank down to 300th place...
.....But such a move was not allowable only to certain coaches at Bradley when one other who wanted his son to play at BU was denied.

Jason Leblebijian (13) IF - Honors and AwardsMajor League Baseball First-Year Player Draft: 2012 25th Round (Toronto Blue Jays)All-Missouri Valley
a couple good BU players were drafted after their junior years...the way signing bonuses go - it's hard to blame kids for leaving school early....
however - this happens to every single D-I program and the better the programs, then generally the more such top players & starters they lose - but we have not been one of those programs that have lost that many so it is a pretty bogus excuse.

Rob Scahill was a Dewey Kalmer recruit.
My point being that losing players early to the draft has not happened frequently under the current coach. Jason Leblebijian may have been the only one.
Almost every D1 program loses talented players to the MLB draft before their eligibility is up.
That should not be an excuse for Bradley's underperforming.

Max Murphy was drafted after his junior year last year and signed by the Twins.

I talked today with an ex-Bradley player - who has now finished his MLB career, lives in Peoria and who was offered the job as BU pitching coach last summer but turned it down as he already has a job and did not want to have to travel & be away from family...
He actually feels this might be Bradley's year coming up...or at least a year where Bradley is above .500...
Bradley was a decent offensive team and this spring almost all of the pitching returns from last year and should be solid....time will tell..
