of course - and Dan Fogleberg's piece titled "Leader of the Band" is a tribute to his dad...

Dan's dad died only a year after the song was released and many of Fogleberg's best works were reflections on his younger days in Peoria

well...after seeing others' thoughts - I will be so bold and to propose a
Peoria Top 10 - of course it is biased by my viewpoint so feel free to correct.....
..knowing that people in the media or entertainment business benefit greatly from their names being promoted where other famous people who have substantial influence - remain obscure...(and if you don't agree then how do you explain Joan Rivers as the lead story in the news and full-hour special coverage for WEEKS!)
...........fans of well-promoted people may want to rank HIGHLY a guy others have little or no favoritism or respect for.
The TEN most influential/famous people from Peoria (and I would include nearby except nobody from East Peoria really made the list)
- with apologies to some great people left off the list simply because I had to pick the Top 10 (Shalikashvili, Carver, Girardi, Kinison, Thome..)
In no particular order...
Richard Pryor, Philip Jose Farmer (author, his books were a genre almost of their own & sold millions), Dan Fogelberg, Fulton Sheen, Jim Jordan,
Betty Friedan, Bob Michael, Joe Chamberlain, Nancy Brinker (sister of Susan Komen and founder of the Susan Komen organization), Lydia Moss Bradley.
(apologies to ones who just missed :
Robert Ingersoll - his influence was simply not lasting
Jack Brickhouse - close
Shaun Livingston - too recent - fame would have to be a bit more lasting to qualify)

Imho if it weren't for the most horrific basketball injury I have watched happen, Sean Livingston would have become the most famous. His injury has relegated him to the status of "player in the nba" as opposed to the Allstar trajectory he was on.Gotta stop feeding the trolls.
