  • High school wrestling- Illinois senior about to make history

Josh Alber, a senior at tiny Dakota High School will be wrestling this weekend to try for his 4th consecutive State of Illinois Class 1A wrestling Championship. There have been 11 previous high schoolers who have won 4 straight state titles, but none have done what Josh has the chance to do this year. He is currently 173-0 in his high school career, and he has a good chance to become the first high school wrestler to finish his career having won every single match he has had. Though he wrestles in Class 1A, he has beaten a number of top ranked wrestlers and state champions in higher classes, including a wrestler who was ranked #1 in the country when he beat him earlier this year.

The previous top records in state wrestling history include Sterling Newman's Mike Mena (157-0-1), Tinley Park Andrew's Joey Gilbert (163-1) and Chicago Mt. Carmel's Joe Williams (159-1).
