Interesting...
movement in the Baseball coaching staff.....hiring a new assistant baseball coach at Bradley
John Corbin is gone ?
He was the pitching coach and pitching was, by far, the weakest suit the team had - Corbin had been with Elvis Dominguez a decade and had come along from EKU...

watched a couple college games yesterday...
especially loved watching UL-Lafayette play ..what a great team, smart, and well coached...
...btw - note how that column I just linked compares their head coach to ....RON MAESTRI!!!
doubt they're all going to play in the Majors, but they are great college players..
they hit, they bunt, they run, they are SMART, they use strategy, and they don't make mistakes..
How does a small directional school like Lafayette so consistently embarrass the big boys who have budgets 20 times larger??
And they are the Rajin' Cajuns - their stuff sells and their fans are rabid...

Here is one reason why Layafette (and other Louisiana State schools are always good).
The Louisiana TOPS Program
It is similar the the Peoria Promise Program available to resident students of Peoria. But this is better. It covers any student/athlete living in the state. TOPS provides just over $4,400.00 to qualifing students (which are similar to NCAA requirements on high school seniors). Tuition at Layafette is just over $4,300.00. Plus kids could still get PELL Grants.
So the state pays your tuition if you are from Louisiana. This does not count against your scholarships available to recruit with as long as you meet criteria. La schools can get some of the best kids in the state to walk on. Most of these schools then use their scholarships available on kids outside of the state because they already get the best in state kids tuition paid for. They have a big advantage over other schools. Great depth because of this.
Remember, these kinds of schools are incredibly cheap state schools and Layafette only graduates 13% of its kids in 4 years.Last edited by BuB; 06-09-2014, 06:09 PM.

ICC's Jared Holloman signs with Morehead State baseball!
He's a great pitcher - something BU also desperately needs - 3.8 GPA, 1.50 ERA and a 29/3 strikeout/walk ratio! ...two complete games plus was NATIONAL Player/Pitcher of the Week during the season!
He is a Morton HS grad - Morehead State won 29 games - an improvement of 13 wins over the prior season but....
they desperately need pitching (team ERA 6.40!)
...their record includes wins over national powers Kentucky, University of Indiana, (both were nationally ranked at the time)
...and close losses to both Louisville (playing at College World Series) & Tennessee.

Rob Scahill -
One of Bradley's past greats has been called up to the majors and is pitching for the Colorado Rockies ..
The Rockies put Rob right to work - Scahill worked yesterday, Sunday, coming in to relieve starter Tyler Matzek with one out & bases loaded in the 6th.
Scahill then mowed down the next two batters to get out of the inning.
To start the 7th he was greeted by a 2-base error on his 3rd baseman - giving the Braves a man on 2nd with nobody out.
Scahill then proceeded to mow them down again, and nicely worked out of the jam.
He was then pinch-hit for in the bottom of the 7th and his line looked good...
1 & 2/3 innings, no hits, no walks, no runs, ERA 0.00
Rob Scahill - played from 2006-2009 for both Dewey Kalmer & one year under Elvis Dominguez

his replacement has now been hired...although it is NOT official yet and contracts have to get blown by the board nowadays....
it is Larry Scully, who was formerly the assistant coach and pitching coach at Murray State University
Larry Scully enters his first season as the pitching coach at Murray State. Scully joins the Breds after serving the previous two seasons as the pitching coa...
He has a nice resume - but his staff struggled this past year at Murray State. Murray State was 23-29 this past season - their pitching staff went 4.89 ERA, only one shutout,
465.1 innings pitched, 517 hits, 316 runs, 253 ER, 314K/188BB, 30 HR (compared to 10 on offense), and a surprisingly high .285 batting average overall for opponents.
Most of those values placed Murray State in the middle to lower half of the Ohio Valley.Last edited by tornado; 07-15-2014, 07:58 AM.
